The doctor should have told you what to do but I would think that severely cutting down on sugar and carbs and exercising more would help.

Go on a No White Diet You basically stop eating sugars, refined carbs.
An A1C level between 5.7 and 6.4 percent is considered prediabetes. An A1C level of 6.5 percent or higher on two separate tests indicates type 2 diabetes.

What they said.
My doctor told me I was pre-diabetes last year, and that was basically what she told me.
Has your thyroid been checked? Sometimes that can scew the results a bit.

Watch for carbs you don’t think about like those in beer too.

If you are overweight loose some. That will make a huge difference.

Everyone above already said basically what you need to know. Look up the carbs in everything you eat and try to cut it in half. Anything white like pasta, rice, potatoes, bread, chips, crackers, pretzels, has high carbs. Fruit is high in carbs, but better than drinking fruit juice. Orange juice has almost exactly the same carbs/sugar as Coca Cola.

Exercise a little more if you don’t exercise now, to help burn through the carbs you do intake, and help overall cardiovascular health.

Obviously, keep desserts to a minimum.

Was your glucose high? Or, just your A1c borderline high? Don’t be too concerned if your A1c was near the top limit if nirnal if your glucose was a great number.

Do you take statin drugs for cholesterol? That’s are thought to affect blood sugar.

That’s a question for the professional who came up with that diagnosis. I can recommend a book for you:

The Diabetes Cure, Alexa Fleckenstein, MD
”.....by targeting the real cause of diabetes: inflammation.”

My mom avoided diabetes medication for 10 years by just walking around her mobile home park every day. Now she takes the pills, but still does not need the injections. She is fairly careful about her diet too. Keeps her weight around 130 lb.

My second post. Ignore most of the above answers with instructions about your diet. You can read. Go to the website http://www.diabetes.org/. You will find every answer you seek, including those about diet. You might be surprised. All carbs are not evil nor forbidden. Beans are on the diabetes superfoods list.

True about beans, and whole grains can be ok in moderation too. Don’t do some sort of drastic no carb thing in my opinion.

Several members of my family have been prediabetic. In each case the doctors strongly suggested that they lose a minimum of 10 pounds. It seems that with every 10 pounds lost that it greatly lowers those all important numbers!!!

John Hopkins Info you might want to look over.
