Longtime jellies here, upon reflection, do you occasionally think about how you've changed in relation to Fluther?

Asked by yesitszen (1961points) July 15th, 2018

We all grow and change and mature.

Or do we.

But if you’ve been here for many years do you occasionally see your change in relation to how you ask and answer here?

Yes, times change and people change and Fluther changes too!

I’m not so helpless ( Learned helplessness ) as when I first started as talljasperman ( Last visit: November 18th, 2015 Joined: December 11th, 2009 ) . I think my interactions are more helpful. I stopped comparing my sob stories to Dungeons and Dragons and Spider-Carnage. Still believing that I’m an immortal Canadian man trapped in a time loop. Just think of the positive aspects of having infinite continues. I am getting more night time sleep but sometimes I wake up at 3:am and have a shower and Fluther for a bit before going back to sleep. I still have daily flights of fancy and will turn to Fluther sometimes first before checking on my own or asking my mom.

Yes. Especially now. I used to be afraid to ask questions, thinking that I would be ridiculed. Then I eventually, I started asking questions. And I was embraced, and I thrived.

Now I’m afraid to ask or answer questions, afraid that I will be shouted at, belittled, or even banned for speaking the truth. Most of the people that I admired and appreciated (except for a small few) have passed away, or have left, for reasons that they, and I know.

I used to love this site. I guess I still do, but I do not feel the same freedom to express myself as I once did. Sometimes people grow, and sometimes people become paranoid and angry. I’m afraid that Fluther will eventually die because the people who made it great, and wonderful, and welcoming, have either left, passed away, or have become embittered and scared.

There is still hope or this site, and that is why I am still here.

Yes. Many Jellies were very supportive of me when I went through some life changes and I will always appreciate that and the witty and intellectual discussions we had over a range of subjects. Now the pool is smaller and perhaps more polarized – although there were always heated debates. Because of who I am now on the “outside” and because of changes in the country, I am less inclined to get into heated political debates here that just make me agitated and change no one. I also go elsewhere for real personal issues so the questions I ask are generally more of a practical nature. I’ll still weigh in on personal or relationship questions if I have something to add.

And because of my beliefs, I am trying in both RL and here to be less of a wit so I curtail some of the sharp retorts would have made. I miss doing that!

I was much more earnest and long-winded in my early answers.
