Home wifi working on my phone but not laptop or tv?

Asked by AshlynM (10684points) July 25th, 2018

It appears the home wifi is working on my phone but not my laptop or the tv.
What does it mean when wifi works on some devices but not others?

Did you reboot the modem?
Did you reboot the computers?
Sometimes my desktop looses Wi-fi I click off then click back on and 10 times out of 10 it works or at least for me.

Rebooting the router should fix it.

Sure it is actually working on your phone? It might have dropped to cellular if it couldn’t get a wifi signal.

@johnpowell I have mobile data turned off on my phone. The option still shows that it’s turned off.

New wireless routers have a 2.4 and 5ghz band. Your tv and computer may be on 5 and your phone on 2.4. You could try rebooting the router.

Also check the max allowable number of devices. It is amazing how many WiFi devices we have nowadays.

There is also channel congestion. Any free wifi sniffer will tell you both what channel you are using and how many other networks are on the same or adjacent channel.
