Can we rename the "dog days" the "ice cream days"?

Asked by janbb (62874points) August 8th, 2018

I swear all I feel like doing is diving into a pot of mint chocolate chip ice cream and if it were bigger, or I were smaller, I would.

Have at it – let’s talk about ice cream for a while and cool down. Favorite flavors? Cone or cup? Sprinkles? Sundae? Nuts or neutered?

Also mint chocolate chip. Large cup. Nuts, sprinkles, teeny m&ms, teeny Reese’s pieces, whatever the hell similar crap I can find.

But for formal evening ice cream, I prefer simple French vanilla, in a dish, with some Kahlua or cherry cordial poured over.

How about for breakfast ice cream? I feel a simple spoon in the pot works best for that!

“We,” (you and that monkey in your pocket,) may, if you like. Until that notion takes over to the point of everyone understanding what it means, I’ll stick to “dog days.”

I still don’t understand what “dog days” means, so please do.

Chocolate, vanilla, strawberry, mushroom.

I think dog days is about Sirius (the dog star) rising just before the sun. Nuts are fine, but no candy or sprinkles for me, thank you.

Breakfast ice cream is great.
My favorites include vanilla with Sugar Crisp cereal mixed in, Rice Crispies over butter pecan, chocolate with Fruit Loops, chocolate with peanut butter Capn Crunch, strawberry with shredded wheat.

I believe this evening I will fill a sugar cone with vanilla, some pieces of a Hershey bar mixed in, and sprinkle toffee bits across the top.

Banana split in a glass container with three kinds of ice cream, syrups, nuts and lots of whipped cream.
Wait; do these still exist? I had my last one in the 1970’s.

When I’m out cycling if the weather is warm I often stop at Ghiloni’s Café for ice cream. It is an old Italian café that makes its own ice cream in eight or nine flavours, all delicious.

@Zaku Because it is the brightest star of the Great Dog, Sirius is known as the Dog Star. Its first appearance in the dawn sky in August heralds the “dog days” of summer.

To this day, my favorite ice cream treat is a scoop each of Baskin-Robbins Jamocha Almond Fudge and Pistachio Almond, together in a cup.

But it was so cold in San Francsico today I wore a down jacket when I went out to get a hot Cafe Latte.

I like chocolate ice cream with chocolate syrup with chocolate sprinkles. Do you see a pattern here?

Raspberry Nipple…I mean Ripple.

Well, there brings up a whole other idea about how to cool off.

I like ice cream when it’s warm enough to wear shorts. But I actually don’t like ice cream when it gets unbearably hot. On those days, I’d much prefer a popsicle.

Though I’m down with breakfast ice cream before the heat hits.

@Patty Melt I’ve been trying to figure out your other idea about cooling off. Can you fill us in?

Patty_Melt's avatar

It was in response to the post just above mine.

Haha, some people are so slow & take things way too seriously…bless.
