Will putting my televison at max volume damage my speakers ?

Asked by RedDeerGuy1 (24453points) August 10th, 2018

When is the last time that you put a television to max volume? I am under the air conditioning, in a heat wave 35c, and is very hard to listen to tv unless its at 75% or higher. Will going to 100% damage my Philips flat screen TV speakers?

You “might” get away with it or they “might” go south!!! I got away with it for close to 10 years & then one night…Snap, crackle, POP…gone!!! Of course, it was in the middle of a really good movie exactly when the whole plot was coming together.

You might ewant to consider rearranging your room to get it out from under the a/c!!!

It will annoy your neighbors.

@chyna I will check by going in the hallway with 100% volume. stand by. Edit… can barely hear in the hallway at 100%

@LadyMarissa Its 35 Celsius in Red Deer. I prefer to stay under the A.C. and next to the tv.

Get a head unit, amp. Tv speakers….wow, you are missing out!

And yes it will damage the speakers, they are tiny little tweeters usually, in flat screens.

It may/ may not damage the speakers but it’ll lessen your ability to hear normal sounds which might lead to deafness.

I had a SHARP 32” HDTV that slowly started loosing the sound. When I got rid of it, I almost had the sound maxed at all times. The speakers were only rated at 10 watts and the TV put out about that much. Get yourself a simple stereo amp (w/ speakers) and plug it into the TV. You won’t regret it!
You can then, if you wish, plug in a set of stereo headphones into the stereo amp, which works quite nicely, too!

@kritiper Thanks I ordered cordless headphones from Amazon for $25 free shipping.
