What is the power that was flowing from Jesus?

Asked by RedDeerGuy1 (24454points) September 3rd, 2018

Luke 8:46–48
[46] But Jesus said, “Someone touched me; I know that power has gone out from me.”
[47] Then the woman, seeing that she could not go unnoticed, came trembling and fell at his feet. In the presence of all the people, she told why she had touched him and how she had been instantly healed. [48] Then he said to her, “Daughter, your faith has healed you. Go in peace.”

Here is my understanding of what Christians believe. Not what was it, but what is it? It is a unique power that flows from Jesus. It is not measurable in physical terms. You tap into it through faith, which will solve all your problems, in the next life if not in this one. Chi is just superstition, but the power of faith is real. I am not sure if it is the same power that flows from God and the Holy Spirit.

If we assume that he was an alien from outer space, which, all things considered, is the most likely explanation if we presume those claims to be true, then it was probably an advanced, fast acting retrovirus, or possibly medical nanites, transmitted via the skin.

It was literary hyperbole. Remember that the New Testament was written 100–120 years after Jesus died, and what they writers did was collected a good bit of oral tradition and tried to knit it into a story for retelling.

We’re talking about priests trying to piece together a coherent religious document from 20+ other religious documents that had been written generations before.

So the words cannot be believed literally. You have to take into account the passage of time, the people doing the writing (and their motivations), plus the tendency to embellish when telling stories.

I doubt that there was a “real” force as described. That’s science fiction.
