If Trump was a Democrat, would he have lasted this long as president?

Asked by mazingerz88 (28809points) September 5th, 2018 from iPhone

Democrats just don’t know how to play dirty, vicious, shameful and deplorable politics. Or sustain it if they ever did.

I’m curious how the Republicans would have dealt with trump if he’s a Democrat who still has support from his Democratic voters no matter what he does.

Trump isn’t really a Republican. He is just Trump, a disreputable blowhard billionaire who has the interests of very few Americans at heart unlike a traditional party candidate. His only ability is to play upon the emotions and prejudices of large numbers (but not a majority) of the American public and this is by no means the same as honestly representing their best interests.

Trump isn’t a republican or a democrat he is more like the golem activated by inserting a simple ballot paper into his mouth. Once inserted it is difficult to remove.

Perhaps. But he certainly would have very little chance of reelection, as he would have pissed off too many of his voters.
Republicans however are aroused by this kind of sleazy behaviour, because they mistake it for ‘strength’

And they cling to his lies, like flies on a cow turd.^
Even when you point out that was an all out lie.

I’ll have to answer this question later. I’m trying to figure out if a frog’s ass wasn’t watertight, would it matter?

According to the Washington Times, a heavily right-wing newspaper, Trump has changed his political affiliation at least 5 times since the late-1980s: Republican-Independent-Democrat-Republican-Independent-Republican. His true position is Opportunist, changing with what’s expedient at the moment.

The fact is that Trump didn’t run as a Democrat and that is hella important and will be when the history books are written. He was elevated on the Republican platform and he was groomed and tutored to appeal. Really, that is all that matters here. Facts and history and what actually happened. I wish Reality had a place in US politics.

Good point @ScienceChick. Why did Trump run as a Republican and not a Dem? Did he realize he wouldn’t have a chance in hell among reasonable, intelligent people? (Thing is…I don’t think he ever really thought he had a chance in hell though….)

Trump recognized that he could force himself on the Reuplican party once the moron and looney-toon contingents of that party were enamored with him. And sure enough, those in that party of credible intelligence fell into line despite the abhorence they bore initially at the thought of Trump as President. The only REAL question at the outset was around the numbers comprising the looneytune/moron block. And the consensus everywhere was “there cannot possibly be enough of them to swing the trick.” I don’t know about the rest of you, but I’ve certainly learned my lesson.

At first I think you are right @Dutchess_III he was treating it like a game and an attention lime light seeking thing, but something in his lies resinated with low income, educated right wing red necks, right wing white supremacists ,and he built on that and with help from Moscow pulled it off now you got him.
Just come November hopefully you guys can take the wind out of his sails.

My son voted in the primaries! That would be the first time he ever voted. He was going to vote for Bernie, but when he didn’t get the nomination my son just threw in the towel. If nothing else, maybe trump will show people how CRITICAL it is that they vote and it DOES make a difference.

Anyway, from reports it appears he was as stunned as everyone else that he won.

Cheer up. The way things are going, his entire cabinet will be listed in the Who’s Who book of Federal convicts by the time Mueller turns over the last slimey rock. And if the Democrats take the House, the show will be over.

The Republicans would be all over him saying how awful he is.

Separating children from parents? The right wing would have pulled out their moral superiority. To their credit, some of them did, even though they are Republicans, but most supported Trump and defended him.

Bringing the family into the White House? All the money spent protecting his family? They would have had a conniption.

He was previously saying he would protect Planned Parenthood. I don’t know where he is on that now.

There are more, but I won’t bore you more with examples.
