Moved into an apartment a few months ago can I move into another with an open lease?

Asked by Dannyfanpooch (70points) October 26th, 2018 from iPhone

will the lease show on my credit report? Due to unforeen events I can no longer afford the apartment I am in, do I have to move out of my current apartment before they will let me apply and get approved? will they show my lease is still open and not let me move in? This is my first time living on my own.

The answer is in the fine print of the list you signed – only you have that; we don’t. It depends largely on how understanding the landlord is, and how quickly they can re-rent your current place if you move out. They don’t want it sitting empty.

Again, you are closer to them than we are.

If you’re wanting to move to a cheaper place in the same complex, they may do it for you. If you want to move totally out and move away from them entirely, they may not,=

this is my first time moving so I don’t know the rules as far as applying for another apartment, I wouldn’t stay in my current complex. Will another apartment or house rent to me with this lease open? Or is this on my credit report?

Talk to your landlord. He or she is the only one who knows what is in the lease that you signed.

Ask if you can transfer to another apartment cheaper in costs etc
Some may charge a transfer fee ( Here Its $150 to transfer..all they do is ask existing residents I if there are no openings) if they would like to upgrade to your apt?
Residents here do that and do find others who do upgrade..example from main floor to top floor etc Or one bedroom to 2 bedroom etc.

You’re talking about renting from some other landlord? If so, it’s up to the new landlord whether they even check your credit and what criteria they use to approve you or not.

The fact that you are renting a place to live probably should not appear on your credit report at all.

And it is normal to move from one apartment to another. The main issue would tend to be your existing rental contract, and whether it requires you to rent it for a certain period, in which case there may be a fee specified for breaking the lease if you leave early.

Is it another apartment with the same landlord? I’m confused.
