What emotions are you feeling about tomorrow?

Asked by Mariah (25883points) November 5th, 2018

Regardless of your views, we can all probably agree that tomorrow’s election is A Big Deal. For many of us, the outcome will impact our lives in very real ways. For that reason, people are probably feeling lots of strong emotions tonight, ranging from hopeful, excited, to anxious or downright terrified.

What are you feeling tonight?

If you’re in the anxious camp with me, how are you planning to cope for the next day or so? It’s times like these that make me wish I had a Xanax Rx.

This is not a partisan question.

My state will not change a thing, I’m neutral about tomorrow at the moment.

Excited. Hopeful.

Anxious. I’m voting than going to a movie in the afternoon. May try to make it a double feature. Early bedtime and wake up on Wednesday to the future.

My congregation is having a pot luck dinner on Wednesday night to join together.

I’m very excited! Our state may elect a native American woman as governor! And we will vote on Medicaid expansion for people like me!

The same emotion that your cat feels, when you are lying in bed, deathly sick.
Indifference.

Stressed and anxious.

What are the initial results showing, with early voting and everything?

Anxiety. Anxiety and anticipatory distress. I worry that no matter what the reported outcomes may be, some people will cry foul. The results won’t settle anything. They’ll just either change or amplify who blames whom for what.

The present sociopolitical environment is not conducive to reconciliation or compromise. There are too many people who want to see conflict and chaos for their own sake and will reject anything that leads to calm cooperation. Those are the truly destructive forces, and we haven’t yet seen their worst.

And yes, I’d like to be wrong.

I’m glad I live in California, that’s what I’m feeling.

Other than that, I’m anxious about the future, but only about 15% more than usual.

Backed into a corner mostly.

I am helping on a friend’s county-level race, and barring something really weird he should win. I’ll be relieved when it’s confirmed.

Hoping voters in Georgia and Florida step up like good Alabamans did in last year’s US Senate race.

All of them.
And I am grateful that I live in a land where liquor is available.

I feel like no matter what happens tomorrow, we are still Americans. I feel like a lot of people have forgotten what that means. I hope we don’t lose sight of who we are because of what we want others to be.

Was anxious bordering on terrified. But after just watching the movie Bohemian Rhapsody…still anxious but bordering on “we will rock you, deplorables!” : )

Ennui, but then I feel that about everything ;)

I guess a little trepidation, but my confidence is still there.

The American legislative branch has made a science of doing nothing and dumping their responsibilities onto the executive branch and/or the judicial branch, thus making re election easier.
Thus, whatever happens tomorrow nothing will really change.
There will be lots of noise, and no outcome.
Save your Xanax for a real crisis.

Lots of these are not actually emotions so may as well join in, I feel apathy…of course.
No matter what the outcome both sides will spin it in their favour & you lot will lap up that twisted cream to suit your personal agendas, nothing will change then…as you were.

Somewhat anxious though I am 3,000 miles away.

On FB I read, from last night, “This feeling is like Christmas Eve and Colonoscopy Eve.”
That’s about right.

I worry about how people will react to the results. I feel like I don’t want to look at Facebook for the next two days. I wish everyone in there could just decide to “count to ten” regarding their reactions to the results, whatever they are. I don’t mean shut up forever, I just mean take a moment to cool down.

I do have a little anticipatory anxiety, but mostly I feel like whatever it is it is, and I can’t do much about it now. Unless of course if there are issues with the voting process itself or if an election is too close to call. I will not start really paying attention until much later tonight. I really don’t like all the discussion on TV about polls and the guessing being done by these talking heads. I feel like it might influence voter turn out, and that bothers me, so I put my head in the sand about it.

I’m very interested to see what happens in FL, GA, and TN. I think Oprah getting out in GA will help push Abrams over the finish line. Bloomberg compaigning here in FL for Gillum probably helped him, but not as significantly as the Oprah effect, because the people Bloomberg speaks to are likely voters already. He might have reached some independents though. I have been spammed over and over again in my text messages and it’s in my news feed on my Facebook that the Democrat, Gillum, is an antisemite against Israel. I’m glad to see Bloomberg was willing to campaign, he is respected by people from both parties I think.

The 13M Americans who will lose their health insurance as a result of the tax cuts and jobs act of 2017, and the 16K who will die each year as a result, politely disagree, @josie.

I just returned home from voting & I feel like a weight has been lifted off my shoulders!!! I’ve done EVERYTHING that I can do. Should know in about 7 hours IF things go as hoped!!!
