NSFW - Have you ever lost control from fear?

Asked by Patty_Melt (17513points) November 8th, 2018

So many times it has been brought up on TV and cinema.
Have you ever crapped yourself because you were afraid? I mean no illnesses involved, just straight terror?
I can’t estimate how many times I have heard the expression scared shitless, but I’m not aware of it ever happening to anyone I know.

No
But I’ve come pretty close…

Last months staff wage bill startled me to the point a little bit of pee-pee came out.

I drank so much I wet myself once. Never got that scared. When I first read The Shining it freaked me out to the point where I had to turn extra lights on. But nothing really since I was about 17.

No, but it does induce a bout of diarrhoea.

Nope. I’ve had many instances of a sort of a free floating fear, but extreme fear only a few times.

My reaction in the more extreme instances varied depending on the situation.

My reaction to being mugged was I froze at first, I never would have expected that.

Another time i was taking medicine that I was having a severe reaction to. I was overwrought at first, edgy, and teary, and then just gave in and accepted I might die.

The third I was in a very bad accident. The scariest part was I couldn’t breath, I could only take a very shallow breaths. I knew help would come quickly and I tried to just stay calm. It turned out I had a hole in my left lung, and that’s why I couldn’t take in a breath easily.

The only other I can think of was when a date I was on turned bad and this guy was on top of me trying to force himself on me. I immediately started trying to push him off of me and saying stop, and luckily he did after about a minute. He was so strong.

FYI, in cases of attempted rape, crapping yourself can sometimes be a strategic defense.

Can’t tell if you were being serious or tongue in cheek…

But my mom used to tell me stories about how female refugees fleeing from Vietnam on boats would rub fecal matter on themselves as a way to not get raped by real-life pirates.

I was serious. Bodily functions are not foolproof, but can sometimes repel an attacker.

Edit: funny that, because animals frequently use their urine, on themselves or in the area, to attract mates.

Never had that happen. Reminds me of a quote from Dale on King of the Hill: “gentleman, the crap has literally been scared out of me.”

I’ve had intense nervousness make me feel like I was going to, but it didn’t end up going that far, thankfully.

Not as an adult, no, but as a child I recall having pissed my pants when frozen with fear. I was so afraid that I didn’t even realize it was me that peed, I thought it was someone else and I didn’t understand why I was wet.

I have not. I have not sky dived before. That might do it.

@f, is it something which would still frighten you today? Or was your fear mostly due to your young age?

ANef_is_Enuf's avatar

@Patty_Melt it’s complicated to answer that, but yes I think it would still frighten me today, but not enough to wet myself.
