Can I use a water-soluble marker on a dry erase board?

Asked by noitall (159points) December 18th, 2018

Is a soluble marker suitable for white marker board (such as, e.g., Flash Furniture 3’ W x 2’ H Porcelain Magnetic Marker Board; color: white, available for about $60 on Amazon)? . I ask because the usual use with such boards involves “dry-erase” markers, which I’ve heard pollute the room with their ‘dust’. I’ve heard that water-soluble markers are the way to go—the kind where you can take a damp cloth to remove writing or markings you make, no matter the color of the maker—and so avoid the dust. Even though I’ve looked into it now and again, I haven’t found a water-soluble marker where its stated it would be safe and suitable for a dry-erase board. And I don’t even know if they work well with the (apparently most desirable) porcelain marker boards. Would writing or drawing on such a board by a water-soluble marker, of any color, erase fully (i.e., without leaving an unfortunate trace, even over time) with a damp cloth? Also, if so, where does one find those kinds of markers, that is, the right kind of water-soluble markers? Thanks in advance for any help!

Are you talking about simple, washable markers?

Probably, but I’m not sure what you mean by “simple”.

I say “simple” because they can be found in virtually any store and they’re inexpensive, so I’m not sure what the problem is.
