Why is New Jersey the only state (of the 50 & DC) where it is illegal for motorists to re-fuel their own vehicles?

Asked by JackAdams (6574points) August 22nd, 2008

You must wait for an attendant to serve you; you’re not allowed to pump your own gas.

This is insulting. It’s like saying that the residents of The Garden State aren’t bright enough to do it on their own.

You cant pump your own gas in oregon either. I heard the state of oregon did this just to create jobs.

That’s amazing! I can’t believe the state that created the spice known as OREGONO, would treat their residents like that.

@buster: I don’t know if it was just to create jobs, but it is true of Oregon. It struck me as odd when I was driving through and an attendant wouldn’t let me fill my own tank.

And it’s from Europe.

Apparently, people from New Jersey (or Oregon for that matter) are to stupid to pump their own gas and the gas station owners are afraid they might drink it, have “gas fights” with the nozzles, or an infinite number of other stupid things they may be inclined to do.
