Remember the National Emergency Alert Text Message test last October?

If not, here’s a reminder link

Could Trump use this mechanism to try and push his Wall ? He has, after all, declared an emergency.

He still has to get past The House and Congress in general and . . . “it will only happen when he declares he’s the Dictator of the usaJ.K.

I mean he could declare an emergency if he runs out of Aqua Net and Man Tan (fake tan spray).

How would that help him push his wall? I’m not seeing the connection here.

It’s too much. He not only forces his wall upon us he can force his tweets upon us as well.

Why would he bother? Everyone knows about his political priorities and his declaration of a national emergency. There’s nothing to alert us about here.

Not required and it would gain nothing. This is a foolish question. Every president since Ford has declared a national emergency

Odd thing…most of this list is from Clinton, Bush II, and Obama and most, if not all, had nothing to do with this country. Clinton declared 17, Bush II had 12 and Obama had 13. I didn’t hear any outrage over any of those. Is the outrage on this just because it is Trump? In other words, is the media treating it differently? Is the hypocrisy running rampant?

I guess he could. Michael Moore said for a while now that some sort of disaster will happen, either fabricated or real, that Trump will seize on, to take away our rights and garner more exclusive power for himself. We saw Bush do it, although his wasn’t so much to get more exclusive power, but it got us to go to war in Iraq and change some of our rights to privacy. We created a whole agency because of it.

The emergency text would just be in addition to what would be being reported in media and other messaging anyway.

Darth_Algar's avatar

I wouldn’t put too much stock into what Michael Moore says.

JLeslie's avatar

^^I maintain he was right about Trump having a real possibility of getting elected, and that not all people voting for Trump were bad people, and that the left and major amounts of people in mainstream media were clueless about the Trump voter.

A broken clock is right twice a day. I still wouldn’t put much stock in what it says the other 1,438 minutes of the day though.

JLeslie's avatar

@Darth_Algar Well, when I look around, most Democrats I know didn’t understand the Trump voter at all. Especially, Democrats who live in very liberal parts of the country.

Although, I will say I’m not as worried as Moore about Trump actually getting rid of Congress or becoming a dictator, but Trump certainly has created some havoc.

When I look around most Trump voters I know didn’t understand the Trump voter at all. I’ve got friends who voted for him who still can’t seem to explain why, or to even figure out just what it is they want from a politician or this country.

JLeslie's avatar

^^Lol. I don’t find that. The Trump voters I know, know exactly why they like him.

Darth_Algar's avatar

Well shit. Who’s anecdote weighs more here?

JLeslie's avatar

^^I’m not competing.

Darth_Algar's avatar

Who said it was a competition?

JLeslie's avatar

Just a saying. Just kidding around.
