Where does the East Bay end?

I’m a recent transplant to San Francisco so my perspective of California is still fairly SF-centric. I tend to think of anywhere that requires crossing the bay as part of the East Bay. But I guess calling Sacramento the East Bay is a stretch… So where would you say people stop considering themselves in the East Bay? Walnut Creek? Livermore?
