What do you think of GMail's phrase completions?

Asked by LostInParadise (31914points) March 17th, 2019

Gmail has recently added a feature which suggests ways of completing phrases. It is creepy when they get it right and annoying when they guess wrong. There should be an option to turn it off.

I’m getting used to them. It is a bit big brotherish but sometimes very handy,

I don’t use it.

I was composing an email yesterday and was asked if I wanted to use it; I said no. Check your settings.

i find it is pretty gently suggested actually and you have to tab to accept it. As I said, it doesn’t bother me although I often don’t use it. I do think it is a pretty clever bit of programming.

Useful at times.

Well, it’s reading the basic premise of the original email, and guessing from there. Now that you mention it, I might try sending emails to my self using odd punctuation and see what it suggest for me.

Obnoxious. I am pretty old school when it comes to computers and AI. I don’t want machines deciding what I want. I don’t use Siri or any of those “digital assistants”. Basically, when it comes to computers, I prefer manual over automatic.
