Oil spots on driveway.

Asked by babygalll (2768points) August 24th, 2008

How do you clean oil spots on the driveway? I have heard different things, but does anything really work? Are there any tricks or secrets you do to clean them?

Super absobent kitty litter sprinked on it will suck a lot of it up but usually not all of it. I had to get a really concentrated cleaner afterwards and scrub the heck out of it with a wire brush and several hosings.

spray engine degreaser on spot, let sit for about a minute, spray with water. Repeat as necessary.

Rent or buy a pressure washer. Gets anything off.

There was a bag of stuff we bought at walmart; it closely resembled kitty litter and it did a great job.

I second the pressure washer. I believe you can rent them from home depot. I always borrow one. I use to work at a garage and once every couple of months, we would clean all the tools out and pressure wash the whole place. That kitty litter style stuff is not effective on any older stains. It really only works super effectively when you put it on the dropped oil right away.
