Why do people claim to be the best driver ever, and yet keep making the same stupid mistakes?

I have been driving transports for thirty years and still have lots to learn.
I try and learn from my mistakes unlike the average moron driver that just keeps making them over and over.
When you do a mistake driving do you beat yourself up about it and really try to never do it again, or just take the whatever attitude and keep going?
