Why does my brothers phone calls me instead of the person that he was actually calling?

Asked by Inspired_2write (14486points) May 30th, 2019

My older senior brother in another Province has an old cellphone and it had been working well until recently when he calls a person in a different Province across the country,I get called as well? Sometimes he is surprised that he got me instead of his friend that he knows for certain that he called that correct number?
What does he need to do in his settings on his phone to correct this problem?
P.S. He is not familiar with technology in regards to cellphone problems. Help ! He called at 4 Am and woke me up too in error.

Sounds like he is calling from his contact list, not keying in the numbers, and he is inadvertently selecting your entry in his list.

Or, he is keying in a number but it chooses a short cut that represents your number.

Have him go to the Phone Store where he bought the cell. See if they can figure it out.

Is the person he’s calling one spot away from you in his contact list? He could be “fat-fingering it”

@zenvelo and @LuckyGuy
I have sent an email to him yesterday highlighting your solutions .
Hope that will solve his problems.
All I know is that the cellphone is really old ( flip type).

For aother example….

Quite regularly I used to get a calls from an elderly woman calling for her daughter. she would ask for “Alice”. I’d tell her she had the wrong number and sh’e apologize, but call me right back. It turns out she was switching the numbers e.g. typing 3353 instead of 3533. After many of these calls we were on a fist name basis. I even called her daughter and told her it was not a problem.
Toward the end, sometimes she’d ask me what number she should dial!
Her daughter set up her home phone with the correct speed dial number but she could not remember which buttons to push for the speed dial.

I haven’t heard from her in a while. :-(

Gawd My older brother just informed me via email asking “what is customer service number”?
I don’t know since he is in a different part of the country. Back to square one.
Could also be when he is has been drinking and can’t see the numbers that he dials???
The mystery continues.
I called him on his cellphone ..he IS drinking at a local bar ( 4 Pm) so it must be happy hour there?
It worries me as he has heart problems and I wonder if he needed help when he called at 4 AM. He is 78 years old.
