Is Biden being treated differently than Trump?

Asked by seawulf575 (8353points) 6 days ago

Recently Biden has made some rather odd claims and statements. He claimed he was VP during the Parkland FL shooting which happened after he left office. He stated they choose truth over facts. He also made a statement: “poor kids are just as bright and just as talented as white kids.”. When Trump makes gaffes like this the left calls him a liar or an idiot or a racist. Where is the outrage over Biden?

He is the centre right democrat, and the establishment wants him to be the next president.
They do not want any of the actual liberal democrats.
Just like they fucked over Sanders over Hillary the last time.

elbanditoroso's avatar

Not really. The newspapers have been reporting on every one of Biden’s flubs and misstatements.

JeSuisRickSpringfield's avatar

I don’t know where you get your news, but the media sources I follow are crucifying Biden over the “poor kids are just as bright and just as talented as white kids” line. And maybe it has escaped your notice, but there is a Never Biden movement within the Democratic party just like there was a Never Trump movement in the Republican party.

Dutchess_III's avatar

Well, just like trump, he’s too damn old to be running for president.

LostInParadise's avatar

He is being treated differently. Biden is being picked on more than Trump is. Trump tells so many lies that the many gaffes he makes are barely noticed. His bizarre statement about the air force during the American Revolution was mentioned with little commentary.

Dutchess_III's avatar

Well, Biden has on his big boy panties. He can handle being picked on better than trumpy.

KNOWITALL's avatar

Yes he is. Literally watched a black woman defend his statement today. Wheres the NAACP, wheres Maxine Waters calling for violence against him?

A lot of denial here.

seawulf575's avatar

^Where are all the people on Fluther calling him a liar?

canidmajor's avatar

He’s not the president.

KNOWITALL's avatar

@canidmajor He wants to be, should matter imo.

Caravanfan's avatar

Biden is not a hateful vindictive cruel piece of shit. He’s just gaffe prone.

KNOWITALL's avatar

@Caravan Wait wait wait, so you’re okay with a Dem racist? Because friend, even I believe Biden is one, and I dont throw the term out loosely.

canidmajor's avatar

Well, @KNOWITALL, he is a player in a very large field, over a year out from the election. It’s not the same. And because this Q has been asked with the sole purpose of projecting “whataboutist” outrage by Fluther’s own Whataboutist king, any attempt rational discussion would be silly.

Caravanfan's avatar

@KNOWITALL Of course not. I didn’t say I supported Biden. I said that he’s not a hateful vindictive cruel piece of shit and he is gaffe prone.

KNOWITALL's avatar

@canid Watch, he’s already lost. Any more money Dems put into Bidens campaign is a loss. You guys cant afford to back another loser.

KNOWITALL's avatar

@Caravan Interesting. Here I am thinking racists are all pos.
Dems especially, based on past politics and history.

Ya’ll have giggled about Bush and Trumps gaffe’s how many times? Not every candidate is an orator like Obama, lets be real.

Caravanfan's avatar

@KNOWITALL “Not every candidate is an orator like Obama, lets be real.”
That’s totally true.

Demosthenes's avatar

And yet despite all this, he’ll probably still win the nomination because the DNC seems to think they can do the same thing over and over again and get different results. We have a term for that…

mazingerz88's avatar

Biden will never be as cruel and deplorably dangerous as trump. It’s so obvious trump is an entire league of his own. An abomination. An aberration.

KNOWITALL's avatar

@mazinger You probably still dont understand why Hillary lost either. Smh.

@Desmosthenes Exactly. Then four more years of whining. I’d almost vote Dem if a normal moderate got in to shut them up.

mazingerz88's avatar

Doesn’t change the fact trump is evil. If that’s what most American voters want, well, Democracy right?

KNOWITALL's avatar

@mazinger I guess. Still not sure what you call evil.

KNOWITALL's avatar

@Caravan Cant open that, sorry.

@KNOWITALL “Infant Ripped From Mother’s Breast At Immigration Detention Center, Mother Handcuffed For Resisting”

KNOWITALL's avatar

@Caravan Why did they do that? Context?

Dutchess_III's avatar

Because they are horrible, inhuman people.

Caravanfan's avatar

@KNOWITALL Because of Trump’s cruel immigration policy. As we said, he is evil.

The end justifies the evil means. Give yourself a pat in the back trump voters.

seawulf575's avatar

@Caravanfan A couple of things to note here. That citation you gave on what evil is is from 2018. It is more than a year old. Policies have changed. But at the time, Trump was continuing the policies of Obama. So is Obama evil as well? I would say yes, given your definition. Funny you don’t mention that, though. Additionally, we all act like it is horrible that children are removed from their parents. The parents are committing a crime. If you get arrested for a DUI and your child is in the car, is is a fact your child will be removed from you. There are many situations where children have been removed from a US citizen’s home until conditions could be verified, because there was a complaint made. To exacerbate the problem along the border, there is human trafficking going on which means that some of the children aren’t even with their parents to start with.
Your Atlantic citation is nothing more than a liberal opinion piece. So yeah, if you want the liberal media to make your determinations for you, feel free to use it. But it has basically no facts and the few it does have are heavily tainted with opinion. Oh! and it’s from last year as well.

seawulf575's avatar

@Caravanfan Really? You are trying to pull out the Daily Beast and Alyssa Milano’s twitter account to back you up? Sorry…your credibility is now shot. There are no concentration camps. That is a bullshit talking point created by the far left. It is not based in ANY fact whatsoever. AND it is offensive to many people.

Caravanfan's avatar

@seawulf57 “your credibility is now shot”
Oh good. So if my credibility is now shot, then you won’t mind if I keep posting stuff, since you won’t read it anyway. I feel better now.

@Caravanfan post away. All you do is spread hate and discontent and false rhetoric. But knock yourself out. Your posts tell me more about you than they do about Trump.

KNOWITALL's avatar

My two buddies shouldnt fuss so!

Obama has a lot to do with current situations. Not all, but some. Fact.

Trump did try zero tolerance and backed off.

Caravanfan's avatar

@seawulf575 Ok fine, you win.
Here is an (admittedly old) article from the conservative Reason Foundation
https://reason.com/2016/03/16/donald-trump-enables-racism/

And the American Enterprise Institute
https://www.aei.org/publication/trumps-failure-to-condemn-the-bigots-of-the-alt-right-tars-his-presidency/

seawulf575's avatar

@Caravanfan I read over your citations. And what I see is more of the same…things taken out of context and the like. The Reason article is better than the AEI, though. It does wrap up with the out of context items. The liberal media takes most things Trump says out of context and then blasts it 24/7 until people start believing the lie. The AEI article is by far the worse of the two, claiming that Trump has not condemned the bigots on the far right. It even digs up the idiotic Charlottesville lie…“There are good people on both sides”. Here was where that quote came from:

REPORTER: Mr. President, are you putting what you’re calling the alt-left and white supremacists on the same moral plane?

TRUMP: I am not putting anybody on a moral plane, what I’m saying is this: you had a group on one side and a group on the other, and they came at each other with clubs and it was vicious and horrible and it was a horrible thing to watch, but there is another side. There was a group on this side, you can call them the left. You’ve just called them the left, that came violently attacking the other group. So you can say what you want, but that’s the way it is.

REPORTER: You said there was hatred and violence on both sides?

TRUMP:I do think there is blame – yes, I think there is blame on both sides. You look at, you look at both sides. I think there’s blame on both sides, and I have no doubt about it, and you don’t have any doubt about it either. And, and, and, and if you reported it accurately, you would say.

REPORTER: The neo-Nazis started this thing. They showed up in Charlottesville.

TRUMP: Excuse me, they didn’t put themselves down as neo-Nazis, and you had some very bad people in that group. But you also had people that were very fine people on both sides. You had people in that group – excuse me, excuse me. I saw the same pictures as you did. You had people in that group that were there to protest the taking down, of to them, a very, very important statue and the renaming of a park from Robert E. Lee to another name.

REPORTER: George Washington and Robert E. Lee are not the same.

TRUMP: Oh no, George Washington was a slave owner. Was George Washington a slave owner? So will George Washington now lose his status? Are we going to take down – excuse me. Are we going to take down, are we going to take down statues to George Washington? How about Thomas Jefferson? What do you think of Thomas Jefferson? You like him? Okay, good. Are we going to take down his statue? He was a major slave owner. Are we going to take down his statue? You know what? It’s fine, you’re changing history, you’re changing culture, and you had people – and I’m not talking about the neo-Nazis and the white nationalists, because they should be condemned totally – but you had many people in that group other than neo-Nazis and white nationalists, okay? And the press has treated them absolutely unfairly. Now, in the other group also, you had some fine people, but you also had troublemakers and you see them come with the black outfits and with the helmets and with the baseball bats – you had a lot of bad people in the other group too.

REPORTER: I just didn’t understand what you were saying. You were saying the press has treated white nationalists unfairly?

TRUMP: No, no. There were people in that rally, and I looked the night before. If you look, they were people protesting very quietly, the taking down the statue of Robert E. Lee. I’m sure in that group there were some bad ones. The following day, it looked like they had some rough, bad people, neo-Nazis, white nationalists, whatever you want to call ‘em. But you had a lot of people in that group that were there to innocently protest and very legally protest, because you know, I don’t know if you know, but they had a permit. The other group didn’t have a permit. So I only tell you this: there are two sides to a story. I thought what took place was a horrible moment for our country, a horrible moment. But there are two sides to the country. Does anybody have a final – does anybody have a final question? You have an infrastructure question.

If you read through that, you see he condemned the Neo-Nazis and White Supremacists several times. Yet what has everybody gotten out of it? The rewrite the liberal media did. Even the citation you gave here shows that lie is continuing. And as a result, it is used as “that hateful rhetoric” of Trump. And now you are spreading it further. So is it that you were duped or that you hate Trump so much that you don’t care about facts?

I should hope so. It’s the wrong question. The proper question is whether or not Biden deserves to be treated differently than Trump, and it is impossible to consider the careers and deeds of both men and conclude them of equal merit OR disgrace. Which is preferable, a dottering old man or a certifiably disgusting, lying, vindictive dishonorable PIG?

stanleybmanly's avatar

@seawulf575 Just give up. You lack both the eloquence and depth to gold plate that walking turd of a man distinguished for consistently exuding the character and integrity of raw sewage. You would do better selling dirty diapers in a bakery than to even imply Trump ethically fit to empty Biden’s bed pan. As with most Trump aficionados, you lack the sense to understand that it is fatal to start ANY conversation involving the fool’s suitability, and you should avoid the subject the way that jackass does vegetables.

Dutchess_III's avatar

Yes Biden deserves to be treated with respect, even if he’s old and dottering. trump deserves 0 respect. Even when he was young he deserved 0 respect.

seawulf575's avatar

@stanleybmanly You show exactly what is hypocritical about the left. They NEVER want to hold Dems to the same standards as Repubs. Never. Let’s look at your proposed question as the perfect example of liberal hypocrisy: Does Biden DESERVE to be treated differently than Trump? The fact you have to ask that question shows you have a bias already. The simple answer is YES. He wants to be POTUS, he should be held to every standard the left has held Trump to. They should be screaming about his racism, his idiocy, and his lies. But they don’t. And you continue to make excuses for him. The better question is: Why won’t the left hold ALL politicians to the same standard?
