Why can I not save attachments on my iPhone?

Asked by WDLittle (105points) August 27th, 2008

After a year or so of owning an iPhone, I’m surprised that I cannot save an e-mail attachment to retrieve later. I mean, I just assumed that they’d give us that option at some point, but now with the G3 out and still no way to do this, (I can save pics now, of course, but I’m interested in Excel docs and/or word files, pdfs, that sort of thing). Am I missing something here? Is this actually available and I just don’t know how to do it, or does someone need to ring a wake up bell at Apple?

The rumor sites speculate that at the end of September The 2.1 Firmware update will bring iDisk support for mobile me customers in iPhone, although it’s unclear as to whether or not that means actual directory access on the phone or access to the virtual iDisk in the “cloud” from a new iPhone app (an actual iDisk app). Either way they’re planning some sort of file saving and retreival system that may address your concern.

Thanks sndfreQ! Probably it will be some $9.99 app, (which I’ve scanned briefly looking to see if anything existed). It seems pretty basic to be able to save something to a folder in the phone, but I guess not.

Thanks again for your response!

Let’s hope not-of it’s tied to Mobile Me, then it should be free as part of the prepaid $99 cost of the subscription.
