I'm 17, Can I have myself treated at our local hospital?

Asked by essence_of_jade (90points) October 31st, 2019

Hello, I’m 17. For weeks I have been dealing with an unknown sickness that has been coming back after it has been fixed. I have been removed from school for multiple days at a time for this. My mother, however, only believes that I am pregnant. I have comfirmed that I am not, and after speaking with someone in the health field, they believe I have appendicitis and requested that I be taken to the hospital immediately. This is a timely thing, and can easily take my life, especially seeing that I can’t even fight off a common cold easily, my body couldn’t fight off an infection and I’d die. Further, I am exibiting EVERY symptom of appendicitis, and I don’t know what to do. If my mom is refusing to take me, is there any way I can have myself treated on these grounds, especially when I have witnesses?

My symptoms:
Lower right side pain on both the abdomen and the back
A steady fever
nausea/vomiting
headache
difficulty breathing

I think you should go immediately. Is there another adult or relative that you trust who can take you? If not, I would go and explain the circumstances to the ER.

Yes, I’d say you should probably just go to the hospital right away.

Yes. Note that Emergency Rooms cannot refuse to treat you.

If you’re in the US, they have to treat you. Go NOW. Figure out the financial shit later.

I should update you guys, my mother and I have both looked at multiple pregnancy tests that I took today to debunk that theory. They were all negative. Rather than taking me to recieve any form of treatment, I am still suffering. I have 10 siblings, and my mom has multiple charges with CPS for things she has done to me. I am the only child she treats this way. I am out of options, and am at risk of being put out my my mother. The only thing my mother will take me to the doctor for is for the suspicion of STDs or Pregnancy. My health truly doesn’t matter to me, and apparently the fact that over the course of 2 months, I have lost over 40 pounds doesn’t either.

Fuck this shit. Go to the ER. if what you say is true. The ER, will.have access to you getting treatment, and getting to a social worker. Your whole life, can be dramatically changed, for the better. Go to the hospital NOW. Even if you have to walk.
I’m not sure why you feel like you deserve this. I don’t know you. And you don’t owe me anything. BUT please go to a hospital. As a favor to a complete stranger.

PLEASE. Do this. I beg of you. Your life could be in danger. And if you don’t care, I do. I am a loser. I’m not a person who you should care about. But I KNOW that you should be in a hospital, RIGHT NOW. If I was there with you, I would drag you there. Take your phone, and some personal items, and go NOW. Right fucking NOW. Everything else, will work itself out. I promise you. You are a valuable life, regardless of what anyone else tells you. If you have to, lie. Tell your Mother you have an STD, or are possibly pregnant. But do what you have to do, to get seen at an ER. They have people there, that can help you.

You are too young to understand what may be going on. With all due respect. I don’t care what your mom thinks. I care about YOU. And YOU are ultimately resonsible, for your own health.

PLEASE. Go to an emergency room, and get this taken care of. You’re too young to die, over something preventable.

I don’t care WTF your mom thinks. Get a cab, call an ambulance, and deal with that shit later. Right now, you should be thinking about YOU. Go NOW. Fuck your Mom. Fuck everything else.

Good luck.

Peace n love.

If you don’t have a ride you can call an ambulance. They’ll take you.

@essence_of_jade: call CPS on your mom. They will get it done. Google your state’s “Child Protection Central Registry.”

I went on my own. I do not have appendicitis, but rather, it was my body practically shutting down on me for months of dehydration and starvation, because I couldn’t get my mom to understand and help sooner for my bouts of sickness, that would have been prevented after the first time I got sick. If she would have taken me to the doctor or ER the first time, I’d still be 150 pounds and not 110. I was treated for the entire night, and I’m super tired. I’m also unsure when I’ll be released, but I’m thinking after I eat, today. My mother came in attempting to cry and make the doctors feel bad! They had already seen and heard my story, and it was shut down almost immediately. I also believe she will get CPS called on her. I thank all of you! I literally was stuck, and I am truly unsure where I’d be without you guys.
