Brian Wells, was he a victim or a co-conspirator?

Asked by essence_of_jade (90points) November 7th, 2019

In the odd death of Brian Wells, the pizza deliveryman who robbed a bank while a bomb was attached around his neck, the question of whether he was a co-conspirator or a victim arises. He took a call to deliver two pizzas to a given address. When he arrived to this address, the specific detailsare unknown, but at some point a bomb collar was attached to his neck, and he was sent with instructions to complete a scavenger hunt and upon completion, would be released from the said collar. He was intercepted by the police. He would meet his demise waiting on the bomb squad.

Marjorie Diehl-Armstrong named him as a conspirator, however, she knew that if she did this, she couldn’t be given the death penalty.

Jessica Hoopsick, a prostitute that had dealings with Wells, also stated that he didn’t really know much about the plot and was tricked into it.

The Netflix documentary about it was pretty good. But be warned, they show the bomb going off.

I’ve always felt that Wells was a stooge who was duped into the outcome. I felt he was a willing participant in the bank robbery who had NO clue that he was going to be blown up!!! I felt that his family misunderstood his involvement in the crime. I might be wrong, but I felt that he full knowledge of the bank robbery, yet had NO clue that he would have a real bomb strapped to his neck. He was used by his so-called friends & paid dearly for his actions!!!

I lived near Erie when all that was going on. It was bizarre. Given his mental abilities, I would venture a guess that he was a patsy. He might have been sucked into some sort of conspiracy only to find he was the one that was getting screwed.
