There is a big regional park by my house. I use hiking boots as it’s steep.

Athabsca Falls in Jasper National Park , Alberta Canada. Mist is great on a hot day.

From the town I live in, it’s only about a ½ hour drive to some beautiful mountains & valleys. When I was younger, I would hike them in my spiked heels. Now that I’m more mature, I wear sensible shoes/boots depending on what part I’m navigating. Since my stroke, I don’t get out there as often as I used to, but still attempt to do my best as it helps keep my legs strengthened!!!

@lucillelucillelucille yes, the trails are well kept up. You don’t want to hike in any hills around here in trails that aren’t groomed—rattlesnakes abound.

@LadyMarissa -Yep! the uneven ground will help with your balance too.
@Caravanfan -I almost stepped on one in N.Carolina. They are so well disguised that you don’t even know they are there until the last second.

The trails at Mohonk Mountain House in the Catskills.

On the beach. Lots of beaches. Delray Beach, Fernandino Beach, Madiera Beach, South Beach.

Through my neighborhood. Basically, every neighborhood I have ever lived in.

If I could choose to walk anyplace I’ve been before, it’d be Rome, or Paris, or certain beaches and sand dune areas and forests.

Pretty much anywhere there is a lake and a walking trail.

Sagacious's avatar

I like to walk on the beach.

Theres a lake 10 min from me thats a water supply, so few outboards, no swimming, very lovely. The walking trails wind around the bat houses, pretty nice. I dont like the tall grass though, easy to hide so we dont go alone. :(

Locally, there are a lot of trails of various steepness and accessibility on Mt Tamalpais, and the Marin Headlands. One can find a trail to fit one’s mood or schedule.

Regionally, hard to beat walks in Yosemite or Lake Tahoe.

I always wear my vibram soled hiking shoes when hiking.

@Zaku-All sound good!
@Kardamom-Yep
@Sagacious-Me too
@KNOWITALL-Good idea
@zenvelo -Do you need to carry bear spray?

Out my front door. I’m two blocks from a lake, five blocks from another lake, and five blocks from the city center.

Or I drive five miles to this place: https://lakeshorepreserve.wisc.edu/visit/places/picnic-point/
