I remember as a kid on those freezing winter mornings I’d have toasted “soldiers” to dip in my soft boiled egg for breakfast.

I cook a couple slices of Benton’s bacon in a cast iron skillet, drain most of the grease (to be used later) and then toast my bread in the same skillet. Then I cook an egg and put it all together. In the summer I’ll add a tomato from my garden.

I guess “cheese sandwiches, ” would top the list. When I was the HOS, at my main venue, as a bouncer, I got free anything. I often had them cook me up two sandwiches. One with cheddar, and one with Swiss cheese.

I would say that the close second, would be peanut butter.

However, I’m not sure how to answer the best. I frequent Firehouse Subs. They “toast,” almost all of their sandwiches.

As far as just “toast,” I almost never eat or prepare it…

Blueberry jam on toast is great.

2–5 times per week.
Butter, or butter and raspberry jam from the local farmers’ market.

I don’t usually have it that often, but when I do butter and grape or strawberry jam are good.

I have toast at least once a day. with mayo, bacon, and lettuce. Sometimes with melted cheese, sometimes with homemade fruit compote. I always toast my bread for sandwiches.

About twice a week; nut butter.

I love a BLT ”-the tomato”. Tomatoes are gross unless they are sauce or ketchup. Bacon, lettuce, miracle whip, and toast.. Effing delicious.

Spaghetti Bolognese.. Wonderful on toast. Spaghetti sandwiches are the best.

The British have given us some great TV (WILTY).. but beans on toast is repulsive.

zenvelo's avatar

A couple times a week. With poached eggs and/ or butter and marmalade.

Demosthenes's avatar

I have it every now and then, not every week but maybe every other week (every day all week). I either put jam on it or avocado.

Break in pieces and put in mug of hot cream of chicken soup.

Fried egg sandwich plus what I have on hand avocado, or melt cheese, bacon, cream cheese, various change ups.

Always On My Mind

Maybe I didn’t toast you
Quite as often as I should have
Maybe I didn’t spread you
Lightly soften as I could have
Little things I would have put on you
I just never took the time

You were always on my mind
You were always on my mind

Maybe I didn’t eat you
All those rushing brekky times
And I guess I never told you
I’m so happy, you’re sublime
When I made you feel yeast that’s least
Bread, I’m so sorry I had dined

You were always on my mind
You were always on my mind

Tell me, tell me that the toaster hasn’t died
Give me, give me one more chance
For peanut butter fried, mmm butter fried

Little snacks I should have made to eat
I just never took the time

You were always on my mind
You were always on my mind
You were always on my mind

I forgot BLTs. I have had them many times, as well.

This varies quite a bit for me. I can go a week without eating any toast, and then eat it in some way almost every day for two weeks straight, depending on what we are counting as toast. Is a toasted English muffin (the American English muffin) considered toast for this Q?

Typically, I’ll have white, rye, or multigrain toast with melted cheese. Sometimes I have dry toast with my omelet.

I make French toast by soaking the bread in egg and frying it in a pan. I put sugar or maple syrup on top. Once in a while I make a sandwich with the French toast, adding ham and cheese. Does that count?

If we count English muffins, I sometimes, but rarely, put raspberry jam. Sometimes I make a mini pizza with red sauce, and mozzarella. My favorite is bacon on a toasted English muffin sandwich. Sometimes I just have dry English muffin toast with my omelet.

I toast bread for almost any sandwich I make, but I don’t think of that as putting something on toast, do you? To me, that would be more of a What do I put on a sandwich question.

cookieman's avatar

My favorite is oatmeal or multi-grain bread toasted, with a schmear of good butter. Cut in half and wrapped around a breakfast sausage.

@johnpowell No lad, beans on toast is delicious & a fine British tradition.
@JLeslie I mean It’s all good in the hood, but I was thinking of good old fashioned standard toasted bread & whatever “toppings” folks have on there.

As always of course, anyone is free to go their own way on my questions. So long as it stimulates discussion or is funny, I’m happy!

I like toast with just plain butter.

I like a toasted bagel with butter, also.

When I have a sandwich at home, I will toast the bread.

lucillelucillelucille's avatar

Rarely. I like it with butter or sometimes jam.

SEKA's avatar

On the days that I only have time for toast, I make cheese toast because the cheese will stick to the rubs and help to hold me over to lunch

On the days that I’m eating a full breakfast, I choose butter with peach preserves
