Easily repairable & durable cellphones?

Asked by Jonathan_hodgkins (684points) January 5th, 2020

My 2016 Motorola g3 is slowly dying and I need a replacement. It would be nice if I could increase it’s lifespan through self repairs. Any thoughts on a durable and easy to repair phone ?

iFixit – Smartphone Repairability Scores
“Our engineers disassembled and analyzed each device, awarding a repairability score between zero and ten. Ten is the easiest to repair.”

Personally, I would recommend getting a cheap used phone, which can be replaced (not repaired) if it breaks. The Motorola G series is a great choice for that.

I tried to replace the glass on a phone once. The parts are tiny and packed and glued in place in a devious intricate way. I could not get the case closed, the phone was a loss.

I would only recommend making repairs if you are really interested in that as a hobby or a business.

There are none that are easily repairable. I do take this into consideration when buying a phone. The pixel 3a is probably the best budget phone right now plus the screen is easy to replace. I have done it as I dropped mins on concrete and shattered the screen. It now has an good case

No such thing. The manufacturers are deliberately making them difficult to repair.
