Have you ever brought anything interesting home from the grocery store?

Asked by lucillelucillelucille (34325points) January 7th, 2020

My husband once brought home a Brazilian Wandering Spider in a bunch of bananas.
The cats found it and it was on it’s hind legs waving it’s feet in the air in some sort of threat posture.
It made quite the mess on the floor when squished.
I asked the cashier about them when I went back to that store and she said that they often see them in the back when they get their fruit shipments in.
Delightful!

I tried to, but her husband wouldn’t let her come home with me.

@elbanditoroso – Maybe if you asked him to sign the permission slip in a sweeter tone, you’d get better results!

Would the grocery store be held liable if someone dies?

lucillelucillelucille's avatar

@Dutchess_III -For negligence maybe? Idk.

Never buying bananas again.

@raum -I know, right?
My hub said that they blend in with the color of the stem which was why he didn’t notice at first.One usually would pick the bunch up by the stem, so I am sure it was hiding in the middle.
The clerk at the store said there was a guy in produce that liked to keep them as pets.I don’t think she was supposed to tell me that…

If you are meaning yucky, we found maggots in those little pie turnovers once.

I used to think crocodile kale was unusual.

The bandit has a point. The Marina Safeway apparently was the place of choice for “cruising” a while back. I knew a woman who worked there and her big complaint was about abandoned carts of groceries in the aisles. She told me that to get the full effect, I should show up there on a Wednesday night after 6—and I did so and received the “guided tour”. ‘Twas an eye opener!

@stanleybmanly, @elbanditoroso That sounds like the plotline for the movie Checkout . The movie was shot in a local grocery store, Hegedorns, in Webster NY.
It was very popular with Rochester, NY folks. .

I’ll look for it.

It’s a small Indi film from 2002. We actually watched in a local theater: The Little theater on East Ave. in Rochester NY. That place is a hidden gem.

I got cornbread mix ful of little mealworms.

My grandma had an old glass Pepsi bottle, unopened, with a huge grasshopper in it. She refused to open or return it.

I inadvertently brought pantry moths home with my groceries. It took over a year to get rid of them.
