Why is the American media using “North America” rather than the specific country name regarding Prince Harry and Princess Meghan, Duchess of Sussex?

I can understand why the UK might use that term, but in America we almost never use North America in place of actually naming the specific country. Are Prince Harry and Meghan going to be living in Canada and America? Is that the reason for using the broader term?
