What do you do late at night when you can't sleep?

Asked by SergeantQueen (12874points) January 13th, 2020

It’s 1 am. I can’t sleep. Too stressed and sad.
I’m on Facebook right now. What do you do when you just can’t fall asleep?

I play guitar. I work out. I walk around, or bike.
I listen to music.
I often dance, to music, with no one there. I imagine a pretty girl, with me….
When I’m with a girl, I ask her to dance with me….
I love dancing, with someone….

I’m sorry you are sad and stressed.

I usually watch tv or just toss and turn in bed. Television at least takes my mind off of things.

2nd answer: perusing the latest dank memes.

I imagine the “third eye”, or pituitary gland as putting me to sleep. It involves concentration on closing the “eye”. This is done after taking a soothing shower and bundling up in my bed.

Time is a constraint of the Federal Government. And I don’t subscribe to that bullshit. Fuck letting big tech define my time.

Here is what I do. I do my normal stuff and sleep when I want. Nap at 10AM.. Sign me up.. Mac and cheese at 4AM. Why the fuck not, I’m not tired and love the blue box.

Usually I just play paintball or laser tag on PSVR.

Lie in bed and panic, sweat, and think horrible things.

I used to try and get up. Have a cup of tea, watch some TV — but I end up waking my wife (who’s become a light sleeper), then the dogs, then my daughter (who is a monster when woken up). So it becomes a thing.

Instead I just lie there silently and wait for the sun to take away the dark thoughts.

I try to stay in bed, but focus on something. When I’m very riled up I listen to a comedian, an audio book, or even a TV show – with the screen turned off. Obviously, nothing too exciting.

When I’m in a calmer state, I listen to one of the many loving kindness or Yoga Nidra meditations on YouTube. Spotify is good for that, too.

When I have only my brain to help me fall asleep, I focus on making up a story or recalling my day in detail. Thinking about what I had for breakfast and which socks I put on in the morning is so boring that it makes me fall asleep quickly.

I ring my butler & he brings me a cup of cocoa, tucks me in & reads Brer Rabbit to me.

Fluther, Facebook, play some sort of solitaire, watch TV, clean, any or all.

I reread a quiet book, something soothing that requires little thought but is just engaging enough to keep from looping on stressful thoughts.

I play this on the kazoo.

I turn off the electronics and read. Reading at night tends to put me to sleep.

Fluther, FB and the internet. I stay in bed with the covers on so when I feel sleepy again I just turn off the computer and go back to sleep.

I usually fall asleep at a regular hour but then may wake up at 3 or 4 in the morning, for a few hours. On work days it sucks because I have to wake up around 6 or 7 for work and so sometimes I tend to want to oversleep.

It’s 4:50am, and I’ve been up since 2:30am. I have a load of wash running, and I’ve been fluthering lying in my bed. I’m also catching up on some DVR TV. I do think I’ll go back to sleep for a couple of hours.

It’s 4:00am and I’m wandering the halls of Fluther. I don’t have a FB account, so won’t be going there
