Old wive’s tale home remedy that was common before modern medicine.

Similar to putting butter on a burn, sugar on the tongue to relieve hiccups, and so on.

I always heard: feed a fever, starve a cold. Like, when you have a fever, keep yourself warm, drink tea, etc, because it “starves” the cold that’s making you sick. I dunno, my mom was an immigrant so she might have missed something.

The old saying, “feed a cold, starve a fever,” may be only partially good advice, according to experts. Starving a fever by eating fewer calories may actually make it more difficult for your body to fight off the flu virus.Mar 7, 2013
