Can Bloomberg buy the Democratic nomination?

If anyone can afford it, he most certainly is burying the media with advertising

I’m praying the Dems are smarter than the reps were!!! I didn’t trust Bloomberg when he was running NYC & I surely don’t trust him now!!! When his commercial comes on, my Mommy ears tune out. He’s a politician with lots of money, so there is NO way he can understand my concerns!!!

That’s one way to describe it.

Another way, which is probably more accurate, is that he is using his wealth to buy advertising, in order to raise peoples’ awareness of how he qualifies for the presidency based on his wealth of experience as a leader and administrator.

He earned his money honestly. Why shouldn’t he use it to advertise?

The system is set up this way now. Money buys advertising. I don’t hold it against Bloomberg. It would be great if the system was different.

In the end what’s the difference if a candidate uses his own money or someone else’s? It’s still buying advertising and research.

Eventually, Bloomberg will have to start connecting in person with voters. Remember Hillary was criticized for not spending enough time in some key states. Some people feel that’s why she lost. If that’s true, money can’t completely buy the presidency.

I’m not sure where Bloomberg is, if he has been giving speeches in various states. He is all over my Facebook (I have Facebook friends who like his page, etc.) and I recently shared a Bloomberg post about veteran benefits, so I guess the Facebook algorithm is sending his stuff to my news feed.

Lots of commercials in Florida for him.

I think Bloomberg has a real possibility to beat Trump in Florida. I doubt any of the other candidates could. I don’t know how Bloomberg would fair in other swing states.

Yes, if you want to look at it that way. Money talks and we are capitalists after all…

He doesn’t need to.
He has Obama’s endorsement.

JLeslie's avatar

@Patty_Melt I thought Obama wasn’t endorsing any candidate?

I can’t find anything on YT. It reverses my search to Bloomberg endorses Obama, bot I’ve been seeing the ads a week now.

^ Obama has not endorsed a candidate, and has said that he won’t (other than his Bernie anti-endorsement). Apparently those ads are working in making people think he has endorsed someone.

Just ask Meg Whitman how trying to but the Governorship of California went for her.

@hmmmmm, you beat me to it. In searching for a Bloomberg ad, I found everyone is running Obama love ads.

My bad.

I saw poll results last night on the news, showing the margins of who could beat Trump. Bloombergs was the biggest.

I thought he was a fairly good mayor of NYC. I live not far from NYC so the nightly news on my TV is NYC news. Of course he was not perfect so if people start sending me controversial decisions he made as mayor I am not going to debate it. I just thought of all of the recent ones, he was good.
