Why do my "Volume Control" lines fail to appear on my SONY Vaio screen?

even though the volume control works fine. What could be the problem? I’m talking about the vertical lines that appear on screen when you increase or decrease the volume.

Check your driver CD, there should be a Sony ACPI one, or something similar which installs those features. If you don’t know where your driver CD is, check Sony’s support site for driver downloads for your model.

I went to the SONY website and reinstalled my Audio driver but it did not fix the problem.
