What are our resources for needed items to be delivered?

Asked by Patty_Melt (17513points) March 16th, 2020

Let’s pool our knowledge of who delivers groceries, etc., and the costs involved.
For instance, I order every month from Walmart. Shipping is free over $35. , but not everything is available for shipping, right now they are crashing from overload. Almost everything I searched the last four days I out of stock. When item says in store only, that doesn’t mean the store you shop actually has the item.

What companies deliver food as Omaha steaks does?

POTUS just announced measures may be in place until August. Delivery might become an issue for everyone.

If Schwab’s is listed on the stock market, now is probably a prime time to buy that stock.

We have a couple of local delivery services that charge $7.99 for tomorrow deliveries and I think it was $17.99 for today. Good for canned goods and shelve stable.

I subscribe to Imperfect Produce. I am getting a week’s worth of eggs, meats, dairy and vegetables tomorrow afternoon.

FreshDirect or Peapod in some areas.

Amazon of course.

Pea pod from Stop & Shop is good but has a $60 minimum order.

If you’re a Prime member, Amazon delivers all sorts of stuff, including groceries, free.

For take out, Uber Eats, Door Dash, and Grub Hub are all good apps/services and charge about $5–10 per delivery.

Also all major grocery stores have delivery, at least in certain areas.

What about rural areas? Does anyone know if outlying areas are going to be able to get deliveries?

I have a local farmer who delivers meat and in season, eggs and veggies. He has the best pork chops!

Our local food bank is receiving boxed meals from restaurants for at their door distribution.

Safeway has been delivering groceries here for a few years now and offering free initial service for most of that time to drum up business. I bet they don’t have to drum up business nowadays!

Safeway has been delivering groceries here for a few years now and offering free initial service for most of that time to drum up business. I bet they don’t have to drum up business nowadays! They suspended the 24 hour operations in the few stores offering it. I imagine it’s because they need extra time to stock the looted shelves. My wife is getting facebook photos of stripped grocery shelves from all over. I’m writing this in my local supermarket lot awaiting 6 AM. 5 minutes to go. Now to review the wife’s list.

I was just reading yesterday about a wonderful young college student who is offering her services to pick up groceries for the elderly & she drops them off on the front porch so the person she’s delivering to doesn’t need to come out to meet her. She’s even recruited a few friends to assist her with deliveries. Zaxby’s here announced yesterday that they will be closing their dining room but the drive thru will remain open for the near future. Several of the fast food places are doing the same. Most of our smaller restaurants are providing “take out only” for now. I’m sure these are only temporary measures, but they are better than nothing!!!

Edit- I noticed just now that Schwan’s got changed above after I posted.
Stupid spellcheck.

At this point, I have plenty of food and you can bet that we will be eating any leftovers until things get better. Now I just need to become a bit more creative with my leftovers

Good information to know, @raum.

Boxed is pretty good. Sam’s Club too. Right now none of them have basics. I wonder how long thats going to last?

Will truckers stop delivering ?

Patty_Melt's avatar

@msbebeduc, President Trump has stated that goods will still travel. Canada and the US have agreed to close the border, but deliveries all still allowed to cross. The same goes with Mexico.
eBay has bulletins up being updated as necessary.
