I just did, thanks for posting. My take is that it’s fairly optimistic, in the sense that he’s thinking that mortality percentages will be on the low side, and not nearly as bad as MERS or SARS.

But he takes pains to say that it’s early and we just don’t know.

So, interesting, but not earth shattering.

@elbanditoroso -You are welcome:)
Not earth shattering but interesting: “This suggests that the overall clinical consequences of Covid-19 may ultimately be more akin to those of a severe seasonal influenza (which has a case fatality rate of approximately 0.1%) or a pandemic influenza (similar to those in 1957 and 1968) rather than a disease similar to SARS or MERS, which have had case fatality rates of 9 to 10% and 36%, respectively.”

That’s a pretty short article. Agreed that it is hopeful to see a possible mortality rate far below other recent epidemics.

I notice Fauci has been deleted from he daily briefings. Trump is giving the podium to Dr. Birx who is downplaying the epidemic and fawning over Trump.

She says a 20 percent US infection rate isn’t reasonable. In fact, the flu has a 20% infection rate every year, and we have vaccines and widespread immunity against it.

That is exactly the kind of irresponsible cover-up which let the disease explode in China.

@Call_Me_Jay -Precisely the opposite of what the Chinese did. The Chinese hid the problem and told no one while leaving their borders open and it took reporters and physicians to blow the whistle, who promptly disappeared or died..
Trump closed the borders and flights from other countries in 10 days after the 1st reported case in the US. So no, not like the Chinese.
I wanted opinions on Fauci’s opinion, anyway.

I thought the article was quite good but we need to remember that it was first published a month ago. Some things have changed such as the statement that no one under 15 had contracted the virus. It’s still unlikely but there have been some. I don’t see this as optimistic, just the state of the disease. There are some promising treatments and we may be closer than any if the sensational journalists have been reporting. Until we get to the point that everyone is tested we won’t really have all the facts. Hopefully soon.

Fauci is making the rounds on youtube answering questions from various hosts which are more in the line of what we all want to know. Most of what he’s saying is in line with the link you posted. He gives me a little bit of comfort & an escape from the total panic on the streets & from my friends & family. He also said that the reports about the anti imnflamatories increasing the chances of getting covid19 are false rumors that the facts just aren’t showing.

@LadyMarissa -I wasn’t too worried about the anti-inflammatory thing though:)

@lucillelucillelucille I wasn’t overly worried, yet it still concerned me so I was researching further. It did make me feel better to hear an expert say that there are NO worries there!!!

I ran into Dr Fauci again today but with some of the more difficult Qs. The more he speaks, the more I realize that my thinking & reactions to this pandemic are not that far off!!!

I’m definitely not running up & hugging people & I don’t shake hands. IF I do need to go out, I’m definitely exercising the social distancing well past the 6 feet recommended & I’m most definitely self-isolating.
