How can I become a person who loves studying?

Asked by Alice_zzzzzz (44points) April 7th, 2020

I want to be an excellent college student but I enjoy my free time too much. Afterwards, I always regret what I have done. I want to be a better student. Could you please give me some ideas? Thank you!

I think it would help if you had a study buddy- someone who has excellent study habits and is pleasant to be around would be ideal. Also, create a reward system so you’ll have something to look forward to once you reach a goal. See if you can talk to your friends or family members to encourage you by helping you stay on track (not to cheat! :) and to celebrate once you have reached a goal.

With social distancing you’re going to have to get creative.

Train yourself the way you would train a pet. Use treats. Choose something inexpensive, but appealing to you. If you have a friend to share the study incentive with you, you can treat each other. It can be a bag of chips, or candy, or something from a dollar store. The main thing is to make it fun.

Ha ha! @snowberry and I were typing at the same time.

Echoing the others, I would break your study time into short sessions with a break for a treat after you complete one. Tell yourself, I am going to work on French for 30 minutes, after which I’ll take a walk or read my novel for 30 minutes. Then do another short session with a break. Set a timer if you need to but don’t keep looking at it while you study!

The treats don’t have to be buying anything or eating anything, just break up the times of committed study with something you enjoy,

I tutored Math while in high school, Kenny’s mom down the street heard I would come to the student’s house to do it. She paid me BIG money ($10 for 4 days a week minimum wage was $1.15 per hour) to get Kenny to complete his Summer Math course and graduate high school (he would turn 21 before Labor Day).
I found Kenny could only pay attention to Math for about 10 to 12 minutes if you continued, it was in one ear and out the other, it was zero retention. I worked with him for 9 or 10 minutes then talk about cars or sports then back to Math. He got a C+ grade. Break your study time in small pieces.

My best quarters at the University of California were when I took my heaviest loads while working 32 hours a week. And I also had the most fun.

The secret was planning my time. I had every hour from 8 a.m. until 11 p.m. scheduled for sth whole quarter. I had my class time, study time, work time, study break time, and partying all scheduled for the full ten weeks. I needed up with a 3.8 for those two quarters.

I struggled in college.
Once I left, I began studying on my own, only things I was interested in. I learned more that way than in school.

Study things you are actually interested in and enjoy studying.

The internet made things difficult. I would go to the college library. No phone, no laptop. Books and paper.

Normal people don’t enjoy studying. But your goal should be minimizing distractions. NO PHONE. People will still be vapid twats on insta even if you take a few hours off. You won’t miss a beat. But your homework will be done.

Thank you for your advice. In my opinions, the best way for me to love studying is to set goal and stay away from the social networking. Maybe you can have a try.
