Will Shortz puzzle fans, how do you compare to the contestants in the weekly NPR show?

Not the weekly challenge given at the end, but the on-air questions given to one of the solvers of the previous week’s challenge. Some of those people are awfully good. It is not unusual for these people to be giving an answer at about the same time I am formulating the question. Only on rare occasions have there been people of about my speed.

I can usually play along in my head at the same speed as the contestant. I often get ones that the contestant doesn’t. The weekly challenge usually need a pencil and paper, and take too much time for me.

I get the puzzler on Car Talk about 60% of the time.
