I didn’t say you were guilty. I said I was going to blame you!

Separate blame from Responsibility. Blame is a way of avoiding responsibility for a behavior or action.

As I was taught when I first started to manage other managers, one can delegate authority, one cannot delegate responsibility.

Blaming others is a chicken shit way of living. It is a form of excuse. Don’t trust people who always have an excuse.

What does it mean to blame someone for something? It means that you are saying someone is responsible for something bad that happened, How should someone respond to being blamed? The person can deny responsibility. The person can give an excuse to say that it was the best that could have been done under the circumstances. The person can accept responsibility and may apologize.

It’s only powerful if you get your boss to believe it.

Not always. One of my grandsons says “I don’t know who did it, but I’ll take the blame if you need me to.”

Finding and placing blame is right up there with contriving excuses: The Human element.
