At your top physical form, what sport do you think you'd best be suited for?

Asked by lucillelucillelucille (34325points) May 9th, 2020

Do you currently play this sport?
If not, have you replaced it with another type of sporting activity?

Golf…don’t you dare laugh! :D
I love running, as you know & have posted pretty swift times at multiple distances.
Golf though, I took up late, early forties, took to it like a duck to water.
Instantly connected with the game with zero coaching, just my natural swing, a thing of beauty & a touch of ability…just a smidgen!

Skiing. Strength in my legs, low center of gravity. I skied a tremendous amount in my 20s to mid 30s, but never as much as I wanted to.

And I started doing long distance cycling in my late thirties. In it for the long haul not for the sprints.

I seem to have not been gifted with fast twitch muscles.

Rapier fencing. Too fat to compete anymore.

Anything that involves the outdoors and is active.
I used to do everything sporty..Softball, volley ball ( indoors and outdoors) floor hockey,Inter mural sports competition( always loved participating but never won..too competitive with several Provinces competing over a a week).

I like hiking where I am now in the Mountain Park System and it involves some climbing ,hiking across streams, walking across old bridges and carrying a well packed backpack. Of course I always bring my camera to photograph on the way, one as a precaution in unfamiliar terrain as I take a picture of the trail in front and behind me , should I get lost I just check my photographs.
Never been lost so far while hiking but did get lost on a golf course once..the course trail ended in crescents and a mixed bag of signs…a badly designed golf course…I just backtracked until I recognized the beginning.

I feel tired of course when I get back home but the muscles contract and it makes me feel better.
Hopefully this Summer there are no hindrances such as wild fire smoke from the west coat again?

@ucme -I’d swear you got your answer from my book:How to Connect With the Game WIth Zero Coaching,Just My natural Swing, A Thing O’ Beauty & A Cannon.
My husband thinks I’d be good at the decathlon, definitely high hurdles. Why he thinks this, Idk.
I wonder if he’s ever met me before.

@zenvelo -Lucky you!
My entire family skis-except me. That ship has sailed.

lucillelucillelucille's avatar

@RedDeerGuy1 -That is something I would’ve loved to try. It looks like a blast!

@Inspired_2write -I will be starting my outdoor walks again soon and always take a camera.I LOVE that!
There is so much to see and you never know what you’ll run into :)

Racing small sailboats. Not anymore, I’ve been sidelined by age and arthritis and stuff, but I was small and quick and had an excellent grasp of the subtleties of the sport.
I don’t do it anymore, and sometimes I miss it, but now my major sport is dog walking, with gardening in the summer. :-)

@lucillelucillelucille I see where he’s coming from I sent over a drone you see
You would break records at the pole vault so long as the spring in your cane held out :D

lucillelucillelucille's avatar

@canidmajor -Get yourself a stink boat!

lucillelucillelucille's avatar

@ucme- It doubles as a pogo stick.

Swimming. But I don’t swim now.

lucillelucillelucille's avatar

@kritiper -Still like that. I’m not as fast but I still like it.

Jeruba's avatar

Competitive napping.

lucillelucillelucille's avatar

@Jeruba -Haha! How do you know when you can turn pro?

ANef_is_Enuf's avatar

Probably swimming or maybe weightlifting. I’m a woman, but I have serious shoulders and am naturally muscular even in my worst shape. I don’t necessarily like to swim, I’m not good at it, but if we’re going just on body type in peak condition I am probably built to swim. But lifting if I don’t need to be lean, lol.

lucillelucillelucille's avatar

@ANef_is_Enuf -Lifting is awesome.! I still haven’t stopped that (light weights) and it’s been over 20 years.

lucillelucillelucille's avatar

@canidmajor – Yes! I just happen t know where you could find one!

Jeruba's avatar

@lucillelucillelucille, when someone offers you a job like Li’l Abner’s?

Zaku's avatar

Ancient/medieval martial arts.

ARE_you_kidding_me's avatar

Track and field was my strongest when I was young. When I was in peak shape I was built like a rock climber though.

lucillelucillelucille's avatar

@Zaku -Surely you joust! :)
which ones?

Jeruba's avatar

@lucillelucillelucille, hmm, I guess you must be too young. Al Capp’s long-running political satire comic strip. Li’l Abner was employed as a mattress tester.

Tropical_Willie's avatar

High school and college baseball, middle age competitive in road racing, currently napping !

Zaku's avatar

@lucillelucillelucille No, I don’t joust, but I have always related naturally to athletics as physical conflict and maneuver, but struggled to care at all about doing non-contact sports focused on balls unless they were to be thrown to hit someone.

My favorite actual sport was orienteering – the sport of charging around a natural landscape with a map of it trying to find spots marked on the map.

My natural body type (if it were more developed) is part Scottish highlander and part Germanic warrior.

lucillelucillelucille's avatar

@Zaku -Yep. Definitely combat for you!

lucillelucillelucille's avatar

@Darth_Algar -I brought a boyfriend’s bowling team from first to last place. They were not happy.
Did you know that you can win money for terrible scores? I was happy
