Who is going to win the 2020 U.S. presidential election?

Asked by Mama_Cakes (11160points) June 24th, 2020 from iPhone

And why do you think that they’ll win?

I bet the current President gets re elected. For all the reasons he got elected last time-

A shitty opponent.
A larger than imagined constituency.
An opposition that is arrogant and condescending towards that constituency.

The Dems could win so easily if they would find a decent candidate and stick to the center.
But they don’t.

I also believe Trump will probably win. Like @josie said, Dems are playing the game wrong if they actually want to win.
Some people are really blaming Dems for much of this upheavel, seeing things like Trumps police reform not passing.

The one who gets more votes in the Electoral College. Anyone who thinks they can be more specific at this point in time is lying to you (and probably to themselves).

Trump.
Because more eeh-merry-kins are tapped into him than not.

I’m putting my money on Biden.

Should be interesting.

I am too @Mama_Cakes. I’m hearing a lot of Republicans plan to vote for him too. I hope that is true.

In my lifetime, I can recall no individual as appalling in reasons to be voted against. I honest to God would actively campaign to elect the dog, cat or goldfish of anyone here in preference to the current criminal.

I think Trump will win the EC. I have 0 confidence in Biden’s ability to form or express cohesive thoughts. Relying on people to turn out to vote AGAINST someone instead of FOR someone is a terrible strategy (ask Clinton). Maybe it will work out for Biden, but I think Trump has the edge in the Electoral College.

I’m still planning on voting for the Green Party.

Dutchess_III's avatar

But it worked. Clinton got the majority of the votes. The EC fucked it all up. I don’t think they’ll do that twice.

gorillapaws's avatar

@Dutchess_III I don’t see how you can say “it worked,” when Clinton lost the election. Trump could have been easily defeated. Instead they went with the vote-for-me-because-that-guy-sucks-plus-I-have-a-vagina-strategy.

Dutchess_III's avatar

She won the popular vote by almost 3 million votes. CNN said ”More Americans voted for Hillary Clinton than any other losing presidential candidate in US history.” The EC can vote their conscience, and I believe they will do so this time around.

So you’re pro trump for president @gorillapaws? Interesting.

gorillapaws's avatar

@Dutchess_III Where did I ever say that? I’m pro Howie Hawkins. He’s the only one running that shares my values. He also probably never raped or sexually assaulted anyone, unlike every other candidate.

Ooooooo, best of the losers. There’s something to shoot for!

I’m not a fan of either candidate. This – https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=1iJA2cVXUAA is hilarious, though.

The latest White House memoir paints the president as ignorant, selfish and unworthy of high office. Two GOP House primary candidates the president supported lost their primaries resoundingly. Internet betting sites that long saw Mr. Trump as the front-runner now favor Mr. Biden.

The president’s vaunted Tulsa, Okla., rally was a dud with low turnout. Senior officials continue to depart the administration—another economic adviser this week, the director of legislative affairs and the head of the domestic policy council before him. Why are they fleeing the ship in a crisis, in an election year?

Dutchess_III's avatar

If you don’t vote for Biden, as you indicated you wouldn’t @gorillapaws, then it’s just going to be a repeat of 2016 and trump will win.

KNOWITALL's avatar

@Dutchess_III You aren’t wrong.
If they really want a Dem win, you have to convince the 3rd party voters like @gorillapaws.

SamJ3032's avatar

It is going to be an interesting election but I think the current president will get elected again as lack of strong opposition.

Dutchess_III's avatar

I’d vote for a cat over trump.

@Dutchess_III “If you don’t vote for Biden…”

Why would I vote for someone I despise? To be clear I hate Trump as much as you do, but I hate the DNC even more than that. The failure is not on my end, it’s on Biden and the party (which are why we have—and will continue to have—scumbags like Trump in the first place). Biden could easily win over the progressive left (and beat Trump in a landslide) by picking a genuine progressive (e.g. Nina Turner) as his VP, just as Clinton could have done. He cares more about making his donors happy than beating Trump. Just keep that in mind.
