There used to be a show on TV many years ago. It was called The Wide World of Sports. It showed the the same clip at the beginning of each show. I don’t remember the other clips, but the one I do remember is a downhill skier going down the mountain doing what looked like cartwheels on his skis, and not on purpose. The voice over said “and the agony of defeat.” I don’t care how many times I saw it, I still groaned for the poor skier.

Kerri Strug at the ‘96 Olympics is a standout for me and my sister taking the big mirror off the dresser to see her bowling form. She let go lmao
@chyna-I remember that.

@chyna That was Vinko Bogataj , a Slovenian ski jumper.

Most memorable event for me was The Catch.. An entire region of California erupted at once.

I wish I could recall the name of the Mets shortstop…
Line drive to right field, shortstop makes a huge flying leap to catch it
while still flying through the air he flicks the ball to first for the double play.
He lands flat, gets up, dusts himself off, gets back to shortstop, as the whole stadium goes nuts for a couple minutes.

@chyna I heard of the show, It’s quoted by the chubby sheriff in Blazing Saddles.
We had a similar show over here called World of Sport…guess they couldn’t afford the “Wide” :D

My own most memorable sporting event happened over this past weekend.
My football team, Leeds United (look em up) were crowned champions of the league below the Premier League & have now been promoted to that top league, the best in the world.

It’s the first time in 16yrs we’ve been there & yes…I cried tears of joy. My wife said I was a tit but hey, can’t have it all :D

There was this race car driver, Swede Savage was his name as I remember. He had been in some racing accident, had survived, and was just returning to the track. I thought that news sounded ominous, so I watch the race. At one point, he came out of a corner, and it looked like his steering locked. He went straight into a concrete wall at full speed and was killed.

Personal: My 12 year son was such a good bunter, the couch never let him hit a ball. His RBI score was great, I complained that we took him to the betting cage every week. The coach relented, and Sonny hit a grand slam over the fence.
