Have there been any celebrities or famous people that you took for granted that everyone knew, and were surprised to find someone who never heard of them?

Last night, I was messaging a friend and I told her I was watching “Fixer Upper” with Chip and Joanna Gaines. She told me she had never heard of them. I was surprised, as I thought they’re popular, at least with people watching home decorating shows, and in stores like Target with their brand. I sent her a photo of them and she still didn’t know who they were.

Are there any celebrities or famous people that you took for granted that everyone knew, and were surprised to hear that friends didn’t know?

Chip and who? I have never heard of them either.

I mentioned a song title at dinner, and my 22 yr old daughter asked if I was talking about a Taylor Swift song by that name. I said, “no, it was by The Rolling Stones and came out in 1978”.

I mention musicians from the 60s and 70s, and my kids look at me like I am daft.

I’m probably the one who sometimes doesn’t know someone famous, especially if it is someone in the last 20 years. I never was one to read People magazine, or care a lot about the lives of famous people. I do watch a lot of TV though, so I may not know a name and still know the actor.

My husband often doesn’t know famous singers and groups from the 60’s and 70’s, which is music I grew up with when I was very young, and it cracks me up. A song will come on the radio and either he is shocked I can sing along, or he relates it to a TV show. like he related Elvis’ In The Ghetto with a Everybody Loves Raymond episode, he didn’t know it was Elvis, although I think he knew of Elvis. He had no idea the group The Who was a famous rock group, he though the song Who Are You was just a score written for NCIS. LOL. He mostly is unfamiliar because he was not living in the US during the 60’s and 70’s though, so I am not sure how much that fits this Q. He loves ABBA, Neil Diamond, and many others that were popular from that time, so it is a little hit and miss.

Fixer Upper is great. Some of my favorite episodes are when they do houses that are very modern looking, which is unusual for them, they usually do that farmhouse sheik look, which I like also. I try to watch it recorded or where I am behind a little so I can fast forward through some of it and get to the end.
