Does anyone here take CBD for pain and/or anxiety?

Asked by Mama_Cakes (11160points) August 18th, 2020 from iPhone

My girlfriend takes it for pain. I was thinking of giving it a go as I suffer from anxiety. Not terrible anxiety, though. i think because of the pandemic, my anxiety is amped up a bit more?

Anyhow, do you take it? For what? And do you notice much of a difference?

I experimented with it last year. I started with the tinctures, which seemed to provide some calm (I think). But what really seemed to help was the actual flower. Smoking some of these were great. (Note: vaping was pretty good for a short time until the health scares came out and I threw it all away.)

I then blew it by integrating way too much THC into my experimentation, ending in me taking way too much THC tincture. THC and I don’t mix well any more. Panic.

Occasionally for stress, but it just knocks me out like a .5 Xanax (I’m very sensitive to meds though.)
Our store has CBD soda, brownies, gummies, or actual non-THC buds, all kinds of things.

I’ve heard that the CBD cream is better for arthritis and joint aches, from my mom.

I take it for pain (mostly arthritis) and I find it to be very effective. I haven’t thought about the anxiety aspect, I just figure that if my pain levels are lower, everything is better.
The stuff I use has the lowest THC percentage I can get.

Some CBD products are useless and just riding the hype. If you have a source or brand that that works, grab it and never let it go.

I used CBD 250 Topical Cream on my knee (total knee replacement) after the incision had completely healed. I was having some nagging pain and used it daily for a couple of weeks. It helped, not having any more pain. Of course, it wasn’t a scientific experiment, so I don’t know that it wouldn’t have improved anyway, but it did seem that the pain improved 30–60 minutes after application.

Why not just live with your mild anxiety and lay off the drug? I do. Anxiety is who I am. I like myself and it’s not my problem if it is disturbing to other people. That’s their problem not mine.

Two doctors have told me that I have an “anxiety problem” and prescribed Lorazapam but I refused to take it. I never even knew that I had anxiety. Yea, I’m a bit jumpy and can’t tolerate loud sounds (loud talking people, music, noises). Friends and coworkers have told me that I have a “nervous personality”. Whatever. No big deal.

I know a lot of people who take or use it for pain where I live. The people who use it say it is very effective. I know people who tried it and said it did nothing. I think it most likely does nothing, but if it works for you, it works.

I tend to not like taking and using drugs, and I tend to be very wary of “natural” remedies, so that is my bias. I absolutely believe nature has amazing cures, many of our pharmaceuticals are from nature, but pharmaceuticals are double blind tested, while a lot of the natural remedies aren’t. Before trying it I would just want to know possible negative side effects.

Also, I don’t think I know people who take it for anxiety, so I don’t have feedback for that. I would guess you have tried other things. Deep breathing, compartmentalizing your thoughts, check your thyroid (if your TSH is less than 1.5 it might be thyroid related) get plenty of exercise, quit caffeine.

I take it for pain and to help me sleep. I use an oil under my tongue, hold for 3 seconds and then swish in my mouth. I find it very helpful.

I was having trouble sleeping & my chiropractor recommended I try it. It did help me to go to sleep easier & sleep deeper & I awoke feeling MUCH better!!! While taking it for my inability to sleep properly, I did notice a HUGE improvement in the arthritis pain that I had been dealing with. The one that I’ve been using is an oil that I put under my tongue. Now, to address your anxiety…I don’t think that it will help!!! You indicated that your anxiety is pandemic related & once you use the CBD, the bombardment of pandemic info doesn’t just go away. The CBD did help me to feel calmer when I first started taking it, but it does NOT seem to help with any of my pandemic induced anxiety now. My sleep problem had nothing to do with the pandemic & even with the pandemic, I can fall asleep easier with the CBD. However, it does NOTHING for the anxiety that I’m dealing with during my waking hours.

Those who use CBD oil and have found relief from anxiety and/or pain – would you mind posting the brand/type you use?

Just a thought, but you could also try Hemp oil, which is a dietary supplement. Hempseed oil has been around for decades and can be used in cooking and skincare, too. For me, with my sensitivity, it relaxes me a little without the ‘tiredness’ effect. And you can find it in most health food stores.
Mine is Better With Nature brand, 1000 mg, just drop under the tongue, hold and swallow.

Many say it works for sleep and anxiety but is it not a major problem to choose the effective brand? Most of them are worthless so I’ve heard. You have to buy the right stuff, correct?

Cupcake's avatar

@hmmmmmm https://vitalplanselect.com/ is the brand I use. I settled on it after trying a number of brands.

canidmajor's avatar

@Aster Yes, there are a lot of pop-up suppliers that are just crap. Start with an independent supplier, like a small, natural food store, that carries a number of brands and has the independent lab results for those brands. Some companies have little trial sizes. Talk to the people at the little stores, that is how I found two brands that work. And remember, because this stuff is not synthetic, it may take an hour to kick in, relief is not instant.
This is the brand I have used for a few years now, and I have been very satisfied.
I use CBD for arthritis pain, I don’t know how it would work on anxiety or sleep, as those things are not my focus.
