Why do you have to start in the center when doing cross stitch?

Asked by SergeantQueen (12874points) August 30th, 2020

What happens when you don’t? I love embroidery, but I want to get into some cross stitch. I am starting off with stamped patterns instead of blank fabric with a guide. Why do I need to start in the middle?

I used to do cross stitch with printed patterns, and I don’t remember starting at the middle. I just chose whatever place I liked to start with. I just remember that I started with the largest area though.

It’s just a good way to make sure your design is centered.

If you’re using a pattern printed on the cloth you can begin anywhere. It’s just for the blank fabric that it is advised to begin in the middle because, as @raum said, it centers your design in the piece of fabric.

Usually one starts in the center and work outward to keep your hands off the design.

It can rub and pick up dirt, otherwise, hence some have to wash it afterwards, but doing it from

the center and keeping it tidy one does not need to wash it when completed.

@Inspired_2write I didn’t know that! Makes sense though. Thanks!
