What is the average commission for technology sales?

How much straight commission should someone make selling large advertising deals with technology? Should it be on gross or net amounts?

In this economy and market, a straight commission job should set off flags and alarm bells. Advertising is down 300% yoy, and I hope you do well, but beleive that you may be uncompinsated for your efforts.
