Why did Rey Palpatine feel the need to rename herself "Skywalker"?

Luke, son of Darth Vader, never even considered renaming himself, even after his dad chopped of his hand.

Skywalker, however, was the name Luke knew his entire life. He didn’t know the whole truth about his father, but he knew his father was a hero at one time. And he was raised by people who were connected as family to his father (even if they did have a different name).

Rey, on the other hand, grew up with no family and no name. She knew her blood family’s name for all of 5 minutes and knew Palpatine as the name of the most evil and despised man in the galaxy. It wasn’t a name that she ever had any real connection with. Her family (adopted or not) was Luke, Leia, Han, even Ben. So why not take that family name as her own?

^^ What he said. Plus, “Skywalker” sings way more than “Palpatine”.

Because the writers and producers were stupid as stupid gets, and also utterly apathetic towards sense or continuity. They thought it sounded cool and/or dramatic. And/or they were drunk or stoned.

Yeah, I kinda felt the same way with the prequels.

So did I. I tried to re-watch the prequels before the first Disney SW film came out. And I failed. Couldn’t make myself get through them again. I even tried a re-edited version that dubbed all the dialog into Japanese with English subtitles so the dialog could be better. Still seemed too dumb for my tastes.

But then the Disney ones… so insanely stupid…
