Vegas Travel Question?

Asked by Sueanne_Tremendous (11290points) September 6th, 2008

I am a frequent, frequent traveler butI haven’t been to Las Vegas in (20?) years and I need to be there next week for a trade show. Even as a seasoned traveler, Las Vegas kinda gives me the willies. The last time I was there, there was a mad line waiting for taxis. I’ve looked into private cars but really don’t have a clue if it’s worth the cost. Does anyone have any favorite ways of getting from McCarren to their hotel, or is a taxi/private car the best option? Is it still crazy trying to get a cab?

Unless your hotel offers a shuttle service. A cab or limo is the only way I know of to leave the airport. Unless you rent a car. You can ride the monorail from most hotels to the convention center. It’s almost as much as a cab. But can be easier to get on. The monorail however does not go to the airport or the Rio. There is a free shuttle from the monorail to the Rio. But it is usually a wait.
The crazyness of getting a cab depends on what is going on. Sometimes it’s easy sometimes not.

There are shuttles that run from the airport to any hotel. Just follow the signs for taxi/shuttles. I was there a few months ago and it was not a problem at all.

Not sure why Vegas gives you the willies…but if you haven’t been there in 20 years you should expect many improvements. I love it! Great restaurants, beautiful hotels and a ton of attractions.

We went in 2006 and took a limo. It was there waiting for us when we landed. We arranged pick up from our hotel before we left home. There were five in our travel party, and the limo was pretty cheap. There was no waiting, and the driver was really entertaining. We had a good time. I hope you do too. We did some of the casino stuff , but we also went out to red rock canyon which was pretty.
