Did Fluther just block my IP?

Asked by Mimishu1995 (23627points) October 12th, 2020

This morning I used my Android phone to get to Fluther and the site failed to load. I tried reloading multiple times to no avail. I then asked everyone on the secret Fluther group about the problem because I thought Fluther’s server was down, but that wasn’t the case. I then tried accessing Fluther on my computer because I thought my phone had a problem, and I couldn’t get in either. I suddenly got a dreadful hunch and pulled out my VPN software, and now I could get in.

The only conclusion I can draw right now and I do hope that I’m wrong is that somehow Fluther is blocking my IP. I know there have been some spammers associated with my IP lately, but I didn’t know it was so bad that Fluther had to use IP blocking. And one legitimate user is being affected by it right now :’(

Right now I just traveled all the way to Japan just to access Fluther ~

Your IP address hasn’t been blocked, but some VPNs and proxy servers are automatically prevented from connecting to the servers.

Thank you @SavoirFaire. Is this a temporary thing? What can I do to solve this problem? This is really inconvenient and I don’t have access to VPN all the time.

You can PM me if you need to.

Your mobile and computer are two different IP addresses, Are they through the same company? ? EDIT

Reread you Q and yes spammers on you internet service provider could be the problem. My email ISP “Blocks at their email Server” several spammy servers, including my State’s notifications system ! Have to get notifications on my Gmail account. LOL

Update: I can access Fluther without VPN now. Everything is back to normal.

I don’t think the Facebook “The Tide Pool” is secret.
But glad you got it fixed.

@KNOWITALL: The Facebook group is “hidden” which used to be called “secret.”

A “hidden” group on Facebook means only members can invite new members, but a non- member won’t find the group by searching for it.

If you’re a member of that group and you look on the upper right (on desktop version of FB), you’ll see it says “hidden.”

Cut and pasted from the group “About” :About
Private
Only members can see who’s in the group and what they post

@KNOWITALL I think it’s not a secret here, but it’s a secret as far as finding it on FB, if you’re not a member or not invited.
