Have you heard of the latest vaccine scam [details inside] ?

Asked by LadyMarissa (16085points) December 17th, 2020

According to the news scammers are calling telling people that they can be bumped to the front of the line for their covid vaccine IF they give them them their SSN & checking account info. I know most jellies are way too smart to fall for this scam; however, I feel that it is important to warn elderly family & friends so they are at least aware of the scam. Before both my parents passed, I drilled into their brain “IF anyone calls telling you ‘this’ DON’T listen to them, just hang up.” My Mom was the perfect sucker for these type of calls because she believed that everybody was honest!!! After Mom died, dad was so lonely that he’d keep these types on the phone for hours asking them questions & IF they tried to hang up, he’d say“You mean that if I… that you will…” That always seemed to sucker them back in!!!

Have you heard of this scam & do you know anyone who you might need to enlighten???

I haven’t heard of that scam but I don’t doubt it’s going on. I don’t know anyone who would give out their SS and checking account information.

I got a call just today about this. The guy had a very strong foreign accent and the connection was pretty bad, making me think he might have been overseas. I told him I knew it was a scam and to fuck off. He said “have a nice day”, lol.

I hadn’t heard of that, but I am not the least bit surprised. Scammers are not stupid. Just criminal.

Not from the US, haven’t heard about it. But it makes my blood boils so hard! Targeting people while a pandemic is going on? How low can those people go?

Btw your dad might not know it, but he was basically doing something people would call “scambaiting”. A lot of people are now doing this, keeping the conversation ridiculously long and confusing for the scammers to run around aimlessly, the aim is to waste as much time and energy from the scammers as possible. Look it up on Youtube, there are people making money out of scambaiting and ridiculing scammers on Youtube. Those scammers deserve every single moment of it.

I hadn’t seen that but it doesn’t surprise me. I have several elderly neighbors who I try to keep current on what scams are circulating. One lady got burned a while back when she received a call that her grand son was in jail and needed her help to get out on bail. She did have a grand son, but he wasn’t in jail. In the end, she was out of $10K.
