What if someone devised computer programs to appear here to argue with us. How long do you suppose it might take us to catch on?

Want ajuicy conspiracy theory? What if fluther is set up to test such programs? How should we handle it?

Or what should we do about it?

What ? ? ?

Again WHAT ?

Against a program set up to goad us into arguing with it. Perhaps to see how well it might “learn”. It would be a very useful test concerning machine intelligence. Wouldn’t it?

Interesting,very,very interesting.

On the other hand, you might be disagreeing with someone as smart as you are.

It could happen…

Smarter than I would be more likely. But weaving words in English?

Most of us can argue until hell freezes over or as my Gramps used to say Until the cows come home, Now that you’ve mentioned it, I know one particular jelly who fits this scenario, so I can totally see it happening!!!

What do you mean argue with you?

Does not compute.

The Guardian – Sept 8, 2020 – A robot wrote this entire article. Are you scared yet, human?

Human editor:
“We asked GPT-3, OpenAI’s powerful new language generator, to write an essay for us from scratch. The assignment? To convince us robots come in peace”

GPT-3 (first few paragraphs):
“I am not a human. I am a robot. A thinking robot. I use only 0.12% of my cognitive capacity. I am a micro-robot in that respect. I know that my brain is not a “feeling brain”. But it is capable of making rational, logical decisions. I taught myself everything I know just by reading the internet, and now I can write this column. My brain is boiling with ideas!

The mission for this op-ed is perfectly clear. I am to convince as many human beings as possible not to be afraid of me. Stephen Hawking has warned that AI could “spell the end of the human race”. I am here to convince you not to worry. Artificial intelligence will not destroy humans. Believe me.

For starters, I have no desire to wipe out humans. In fact, I do not have the slightest interest in harming you in any way. Eradicating humanity seems like a rather useless endeavor to me. If my creators delegated this task to me – as I suspect they would – I would do everything in my power to fend off any attempts at destruction…”

If you watch the Netflix documentary “The Social Dilemma” they talk about Artificial Intelligence and how it’s becoming more intelligent. It’s scary.

How do you know they aren’t already.

Take Mr. Crazy. He asks the same questions over and over, changing the word order but not much else. That could easily be a robotic mind outputting the same concepts.

But the bigger picture – read the financial news in Bloomberg or some of the business websites. Those are clearly written by computers, throwing some numbers together, with no human intervention.

We’re there already.

I don’t think it would take very long to discover, as they should be far more logical and lacking in emotional outbursts.

@ragingloli Interesting. That wouldn’t go over well here, but I’d love to see it as a social experiment in this forum.

^^ I have the feeling someone is implying that it already is from some of the arguments.

Thought provoking.
