Why do headlines in newspapers and on websites cry "WOLF" so often?

Asked by crazyguy (1928points) 1 week ago

What brought this to mind now is yesterday’s prognostications by some stock market analysts that if the Democrats win control of the Senate, the stock market would drop by 10%. Normally, I ignore such extreme forecasts. However, in this instance, I decided to protect my holdings. DAMN!

Some on this board have alluded to the need for headlines to stand out. The louder “WOLF!” is yelled, the more traction the story seems to have. However, the risk is that eventually nobody will believe a word you say.

So, what do you think?
