I'm trying to remember a song from the 70's that contained the lyrics "oh the children of Pompeii". It talked about the destruction of Pompeii. Can anyone remember the song?

Male singer. Sort of a ballad.

I looked up lyrics from 1970s “children of pompeii” and got several. This seems the most likely: Pompeii by Peter Hammill from the album: Nadir’s Big Chance.

This is another possibility; it looks like it was done in 2015, but it says “throwback edition”, so it could be a remake. The lyrics are on the site.

Are you talking about “where the children play” by Cat Stevens?
